Root Method Question

Ok, before I get flamed I am not asking "which root method do I use?". I have had my Evo since a month after launch and have always been happy with it. Recently I have found myself to the point where I am bored with the phone and want to dwell into the root world. I have spent the past couple of days reading up and gathering information to assist along the way. This forum and the xda forum have been impressively helpful.

I do have a simple question though. Regardless of how you feel (user replying to this), I am aware of the unrevoke argument. Some opt for the easy 1-click method, while other anti-unrevoke users swear it's better to learn the "long hard way" so that if (and when) problems arise, you know what you are working with. I see both sides of the argument and I see pros & cons in using unrevoke and avoiding it. I get all of that. I have not yet decided which method and I am not asking which is best.

What I am asking for, and maybe I am just not seeing it clearly, but I have yet to see a guide for rooting my Evo the "long hard way". If I am reading them correctly, the 3 links/methods/guides listed below all include using unrevoke. Correct?

http://forum.androidcentral.com/htc...3-7-hboot2-02-w-screen-shots-1-27-2011-a.html
[ROOT][GUIDE] HBoot 2.02/2.10 SOFF - Goodbye Stranger - Upd. 02.25.11 - xda-developers
[ROOT] ~~~ HTC EVO - Universal Auto Root ~~~ v2.5 (4/25/11) - xda-developers

If these 3 are in fact all using the unrevoke method, are there threads/guides out there that I am not seeing that serve as guides as rooting the long hard way? I have looked for guides that seem longer and include the ADB process, but have come up short. Any help is appreciated. Phone specs below.

software ? 3.70.651.1
hardware ? 0003
hboot ? 2.10.0001

I believe that all three methods use Unrevoked as a means to turn off the signature verification when the phone boots into fast-boot. The phone is still rooted after the steps prior to the Unrevoked (using the adb commands), but the S-OFF allows you to flash different ROMs.

Just use unrevoked and be done. Takes 5 mins and you are good to go. Have done 30+ evos with unrevoked and haven't had a problem yet.

that is the difference between unrevoked... and unrevoked forever. The automated version does what the manual version does... you just dont get the learning experience you may find useful if you ever need to undo the root. I have done both, no problems either way. the manual method is much harder if you are not familiar with linux and the Android ADB program.
