Quick Question.

I know you are not supposed to take OTA updates when rooted but I was wondering if that applies to someone in my case where I am rooted pretty much just so I can use Wireless Tether and get screen shots. No custom ROMs or Kernels etc at this point.

Will taking the OTA just break root? Thanks guys!

If you are rooted, have not removed ANY bloatware and are running completely stock except for Root, so you can run some apps like tether, and you accept the OTA you will most likely lose root and your tether app will stop working.

You will still be S-Off so you can re-root again when a new method for root is found, but the sad fact is the update will most likely patch the exploit that was used to get root. You'll have to wait for Unrevoked or another root team to crack it again.

If you removed any bloatware the OTA will likely fail anyway - the last few OTA's checked for the existence of certain bloatware apps before the update would install.

The ROM's and Hacks section has a great write up on how to revert to stock if you want to get the OTA when it comes out.

Hope this helps

Yeah I haven't removed any. I will probably wait a bit until they crack it but really I only use the tether sparingly. Thanks for the information.
