[Root] Samsung Epic 4G Official Froyo EB13 w/Optional EXT4

ok i want to do this one.(Stock EB13 Deodexed EXT4 + CW 3.0.0.6)

Where do i get this stuff? :

Step 2. On your computer launch the included odin.exe and select the included EB13-ext4.pit and under PDA select the included EB13-Extended-3.tar

wait never mind!
I found i didnt do part 2 step 1.
But i go to download the zip file and i think the link isnt working?

I don't think the kernel devs have posted anything about it.

Aww ok thanks one more question if i did not want to run a custom rom or ext4 and just wanted a deodexed eb13 so that i can flash boot screens and screen lockers could i do just this with the clockwork 2.5 i have now...

Go to this thread (download mirror) and download "EB13-stock-deodex.zip", place it on your SD card, boot into Clockwork, and go to sdcard>choose zip from sdcard>(navigate to "EB13-stock-deodex.zip" on your SD card)>(select it using the camera button)>yes

now would i have to reroot this or would it be pre rooted... and would this also break BT

Thanks Royce

the "EB13-stock-deodex.zip" is prerooted and has clockworkmod 2.5.1 on it already.

I'm having an issue with wifi after converting to EXT4. I turn it on and I'll see it go through the connection steps to my access point, but then at obtaining ip address it sits for a few seconds, then it disconnects and repeats that process over a few times, and then my access point is marked disabled.

I started from stock DI18 but rooted. Then I installed the EB13 deodexed rooted via clockwork as in the instructions, and I verified the wifi was working there. Then I installed the CW3 one click root, and converted to EXT4, installed the RFS/EXT4 kernel, wiped my cache, and restarted. No wifi.

Thinking this could be caused by not doing a system wipe, I backed up and tried that (Via clockwork). Upon rebooting a wiped system with EXT4 still installed, I still have no wifi.

I've tried connecting to both my local wifi (Linksys WRT610N), and my mobile router (CradlePoint MBR1200). Both fail as described above. Anyone have any ideas?

@scottresnik, could very well be possible on the skipping the wipe. I haven't had any problems personally with wifi. Connection to my router is instant and I've only lost connection once or twice due to going out of range outside my house.

Best suggestion would be to Odin back to either Eclair 2.1 (DI18) or stock Froyo EB13 and run threw the steps again.

You could even just skip the steps above and just get a version that is already Froyo EB13 deodexed/rooted with CWM3.0.0.6/EXT4 out of the box.

Froyo EB13 Pre-Rooted, Deodexed, with Clockwork - RFS & EXT4

When you goto the XDA site from the link provided in the Guide above just grab the "Stock EB13 Deodexed EXT4 + CW 3.0.0.6" version and your done.

Note: Odin will completely wipe your system so there is no need to pre-wipe before doing the Odin process. You will come out on the other side clean and installed with whatever you choose to flash.

going from DK28 ext4 to EB18 ext4

what is the best way to go to going from DK28 ext4 rom to EB18 ext4 rom?

Can i just flash the new one, or do have have to go back to stock and than root it again, and then flash it? If so how do i even get back to stock now that i convert to ext4?

You need to be on EB13 first. I would strongly recommend wiping when updating to EB13 to avoid problems. Start at post #1 for the complete how-to; the fastest way to get where you want to go might be the "Alternative Method" in that post.

rage against the cage in oneclickroot?

Hey thanks for the rooting directions, worked like a charm except one thing. When I tried to download the oneclickroot file, my computer ssaid it was a virus. Had to turn off the virus software to get the file. Phone rooted perfectly. Th file my virus software was afraid of was called. Rage against the cage or something. Now I find out that that rage thing is part of the malware scandal that caused google to pull all those apps from the market. Am I screwed, or was that rage thing supposed to be in the oneclick root file? Thanks...

Yes the rageinthecage file along with others is what obtains "root" so without it we wouldn't be able to root our phones...

Your good to go, don't worry about the oversensitive virus detection.

Thank you for the wonderful directions! I've taken the next step in my Android learning by officially rooting my Epic. It was dirt simple thanks to the instructions. I will get use to this and perhaps move onto the file system or a new ROM afterward. Thanks again!

Genocide 0.3a

I am a complete noob and you seem to know what to do. I have the epic and EB13 factory 2.2.1 and I am having issues with the camera and sport mode. I want to install Genocide as you suggested, but i have no idea how to do it. I have ROMManager, but it wont flash the epic recovery. It will to all the other choices, such as the captivate, facinate, etc.
So, my questions are as follows :
1. How to flash the proper recovery with ROM Manager or use one of the choices instead?
2. how to install genocide 0.3a?

Thank you for all your help
