[Root] Samsung Epic 4G Official Froyo EB13 w/Optional EXT4

I am a complete noob and you seem to know what to do. I have the epic and EB13 factory 2.2.1 and I am having issues with the camera and sport mode. I want to install Genocide as you suggested, but i have no idea how to do it. I have ROMManager, but it wont flash the epic recovery. It will to all the other choices, such as the captivate, facinate, etc.
So, my questions are as follows :
1. How to flash the proper recovery with ROM Manager or use one of the choices instead?
2. how to install genocide 0.3a?

1.) Stay away from ROM Manager. It was cause you more headaches than its worth.

2.) If your looking just to do the camera fix and not flash custom ROMs and themes, etc.. Then goto the first post in this section and use Procedure #1. This will give you root access and install CWM v2.5.1.0. Once that is done you can download and flash the Genocide kernel from CWM.

3.) If your looking into trying custom ROMs and change themes, do all that fun stuff then I would suggest moving to Procedure #2 and install the CWM3.0.0.6/EXT4 Filesystem conversion.

4.) If you have any more questions, please come back and post in the appropriate thread based on your question.

Download Titanium Backup from the Market, It should ask you for Root User permissions when you start the app up and you would answer by saying yes. This would confirm that you have successfully "rooted" your phone.

Yes the Odin method above will give you everything in one package, one shot all done. Rooted/CWM3.0.0.6 deodexed ready to roll.

Help

When I install the Samsung driver it seems to install correctly but when Windows tries to configure the drivers it fails and my computer doesn't seem to recognize my phone. And when I run the "run" executable in the one-click-root, it says Phone Not Plugged In. Is anyone else having this issue? Is this the part that I have to try multiple times?? Thanks

If you are still having problems, you can try uninstalling the Samsung drivers you downloaded from the link in Step 0, and download and install this driver (select "Software" at the bottom; it should say "Device(Install),USB Driver (Software) (ver.1.0)") instead.

You can try that driver I listed above or try again with the original driver. Usually after you install the driver you have to plug your phone in and Windows will go threw another series of installation to fully complete the driver installation. For me on 2 of my computers it has taken a good 10 minutes for Windows to completely install the drivers before it was ready.

Sorry if this question has already been asked.... I'm finally about to jump over from TER to EB13. Was going to try a few ROM starting with Syndicate. On the Syndicate page, it says to simply run CWM after using odin to go to EB13. Would that be the same thing as jumping straight to part 2 of this thread? Or do I need to run part 1 first?

Perhaps it's referring to this method, which gives you EB13 w/ClockworkMod3 preloaded.

using the preloaded method could not have been any easier. only took me a few minutes to get my phone up and running.

Thanks, ran this last night and other than the computer not seeing the phone issues it was perfect. Followed this up with the ACE Rom and the wife is much happier.

my father in law got an epic last night; it didn't have EB13. Within 20 minutes i had it running Eb13 and rooted! Thanks for all the support and great contributions! Love the AC forums!
