[Root] Samsung Epic 4G Official Froyo EB13 w/Optional EXT4

Hey, Just wanted to say everything was successful. Im running Syndicate rom right now. Planning on trying out Viper 5.0. I tried isntalling gingerbread 3.0 keyboard, but it seems since 3.x of CWM it wont work. Are there any new versions that install via CWM 3.x for gingerbread keyboard?

I wanna share, the most trouble I had while trying to do roms, was downloading the huge files. For some reason my chrome would say the download is complete and It would be short by some 10 MBs. Either my ISP, the servers or my comp. Dunno. I realized this when flashing and CWM said file is corrupt.

Never Mind, I found an easier way to get Gingerbread keyboard. You all should try it.

Search the market for gingerbread keyboard. download the free one by Steven Lin.

Then make sure you go through options and check it to enable it. then tick sounds and vibration. Then select vibration intensity to normal.

Should work perfect.

CWM won't re-flash

After using the one click root to re-root my phone after flashing a new kernel, it reverted CWM back to 2.5 and now I can't get 3.5 to flash back on. I'm trying to flash it using the ROMmanager in the market, it says I'm using 3, but when I boot into recovery its still 2.5. How do I get the newer version back?

Uninstall ROM Manager - it's broken for our phones.

Turn off your phone, hold volume down+power+camera. If you still boot into CWM2, use Part 2 of this thread to get CWM3.

Your not kidding, since trying to use Rommanager three times now my phone shut down and locked up in sleep mode and I had to pull the battery. Uninstalled and got CWM 3.0.6 back on (thanks) so hopefully its straightened out now.

Rooting, driver problems? Please help

Here's what i did so far, and where I'm having troubles

1 - Downloaded the 64 bit drivers. They installed fine on my PC.

2 - Plugged my phone in...nothing happened...?? I thought the drivers were supposed to do their thing before even turning debugging on ??

3 - Turned debugging on and plugged it back in. It says its "installing device driver software" Its been stuck here forever.
Heres a screen shot.

This doesn't seem right. I don't want to continue and screw my phone up by not having the drivers right..

Can anyone help me out here? thanks

Drivers can be a pain in the butt. Half the time mine are "working" the other half not... I plug the phone into root or use Odin and it works, so thats when it counts.

For anyone else that has a problem and comes across this:
I had a similar problem. I rebooted the computer and the phone and changed from one of the front USB ports to one of the rear ports and it worked just fine after that.

Same thing here, every time I plug my phone in it tells me that the drivers did not install properly (despite me having installed them a long time ago) but it always actually works fine. I just ignore it. I suspect there's a small bug in the drivers (Samsung needs to give up on software, seriously) but it doesn't seem to actually have any negative effect on anything.

got stuck the first time on "wait for phone to reconnect"..i rebooted it..ran the run.bat again and it worked flawlessly

odin-ing

hey Paul and rag,
with as well as your instructions went and as well as you guys can answer every single question that someone has posted on this forum, i was wondering if you could lend me some knowledge.
Im spooked out of my mind when it comes to odin but i would like to flash back to try out the new ec05 update. Who's instructions would you recommend following to do this? there just seems to be too many people to choose from and Im not even sure I even have all the files for odin in the first place

thanks a ton

Clockwork 3.0.0.6 not working.. please help

Hey everyone....

I am trying to use clockwork 3.0.0.6 to install the new syndicate rom. Clockwork is throwing these errors at me from the start. Does anyone have any idea what I am doing wrong. I am following the directions here: [ROM][ACS] SyndicateROM Frozen 1.0.2 (Malanga) :: nCIQ/Voodoo Sound/no wipe :: 3/18 - xda-developers

Thanks!

From post #3:
You must boot into Clockwork v3.0.0.6 by turning off your phone and holding volume down+camera+power buttons. If you boot into Clockwork using a program like ROM Manager or Quickboot, you will get errors.

I'm having an issue rooting with one click root cwm 3.0.0.6. Is this possible? I'm on stock EC05 at the moment...

Part 2
1. Go to this thread (download mirror) and download "EB13-stock-deodex.zip", place it on your SD card, boot into Clockwork, and go to sdcard>choose zip from sdcard>(navigate to "EB13-stock-deodex.zip" on your SD card)>(select it using the camera button)>yes

3. Go to this thread (download mirror) and download "EB13-DUALFS-KERNEL.zip", then place it on your phone's SD card.

Wait, are you saying that we need to flash these if you want to root EC05?

Never mind, i went ahead without downloading the eb13 stock deodex and kernel and my epic is converting from RFS to EXT4 right now. nothing bad happening as of now
