[Root] Samsung Epic 4G Official Froyo EB13 w/Optional EXT4

IGNORE This , I had to use "up" on the volume to find it, seems to have worked, Thanks for all this effort!

help! I did all the steps and went to flash the kernel and its not there?

This Step, everything else has worked so far
"7. Now before you reboot, you need to flash the kernel from Step 3. Go to: install zip from sdcard>choose zip from sdcard>(navigate to "EB13-DUALFS-KERNEL.zip" on your SD card)>(select it using the camera button)>yes. The kernel will now be flashed. Once the flashing is complete, you can now reboot and enjoy your new EXT4 filesystem "

i really dont want to brick

PS IGNORE!!!!!!!!!! I found it, while freaking out, ha

if im on Ec05 and i follow this process will my phone go back to EB13?

If you are trying to achieve EXT4 conversion you will still be on EC05 when completed.

Otherwise, explain to me what it is your trying to do

Thank you, I was just trying to achieve EXT4 conversion
after flashing, my fone has been vibrating while trying to turn on but hasnt turn on successfully yet
any suggestions?

You need to flash a EXT4 compatible ROM (Bonsai/Syndicate/midNIGHT) before you leave CWM and reboot.

thank you so much
wait so im gonnna run the second run.bat
then im gonna bout into recovery mode and flash the kernel first
then im gonna flash the rom?

Run the "run.bat" located in the OneClickRoot for EXT4 that you downloaded and extracted.

Let it do its thing.
Shut down your device once its completed
Reboot back into CWM (the conversion to EXT4 will complete takes about 5 mins)

Once that is done, flash the ROM you downloaded and placed on your sdcard

No need to flash any kernel, just flash the EXT4/EC05 based ROM and your done.

i did exactly what u said and my fone just doesnt turn on
it just keeps on going to the samsung mobile screen, vibrates, then the screen turns off, it vibrates again, then repeats this over and over

Recheck your steps, this method has been tested by myself and worked for many others. You must be missing something somewhere in the process.

Edit: Let me ask again. Did you start at Froyo EC05? If so then you need to follow the steps in this thread below to get EXT4 conversion for EC05 and to run custom ROMs. It uses the same exact rooting program and methods but there is one less step and you maybe getting confused with what I'm telling you and what the thread your currently in (for Froyo EB13) is telling you.

Yes to do the conversion process... It needs to be plugged in while running the run.bat process and up to the point of it finishing running the script. Afterwards it doesn't matter if its plugged in or not.

Umm... If you look back at the step by step with the screen shots is everything going as it should?

i did what tht post said to do step by step:
i used the run.bat and waited for it to do its thing
then i turned the phone off and booted into recovery
i wiped everything three times and tried to flash the rom
after trying to flash the rom it just vibrated and stayed at the samsung mobile screen
Now, i odined back to di18 got the ec05 update rooted and installed the pre-ext4conversion thing

Sounds good. Did you use the package provided from the link below?

Stock Pre-Rooted Deodexed Zipaligned Png Optimized EC05 Tar 4/7/2011 Fixed Both Tars

That was my next option to you, but I didn't offer it immediately because I know some users are hesitant to use Odin. If you used the above package that comes with EXT4 conversion, prerooted, etc... then your good to go.. Grab your custom ROM, flash and enjoy!

if im trying to flash syndicate which one should i odin before flashing?
and do you know y it wouldnt work in the first place?

Use the package below. Its basically a slightly modified stock EC05 with rooted/EXT4 conversion all built in with a custom kernel. You can play with that and make a backup of it in CWM before you flash to Syndicate. That way you can always use the Backup you made in CWM to return to that original setup.

Slightly Modded EXT4 EC05 Tar Prerooted Deodexed Zipaligned Png Optimized - Multiupload.com - upload your files to multiple file hosting sites!

I'm not sure why things weren't working for you. I know the procedure works, just something you were doing was out of place/out of step something wasn't getting done right to complete everything correctly.

if i kno how to odin to di18 successfully and have done it multiple times there should be no problems with this one rite
because i kno if somethign goes wrong wit odin then theres a chance of permanently bricking my phone

do i use the same pit file that i was using to flash back to DI18?

Awesome!

It worked exactly as explained. My new Epic is now, Truley Epic, and I couldn't be happier. Awesomeness to the Nth degree! Thanks!

Stuck in Vibration Loop

I'm working my way up to EC05 with EXT4 by Odining back to EB13 with EXT4. (Was previously on pre-rooted EC05 and wanted to take that step of flashing other ROMs). Everything was going fine (I had EB13 rooted and CWM 3.0.0.6) then after I converted from RFS to EXT4 and then immediately flashed EB-13DUALFS-KERNEL.zip Now I'm stuck in that vibrating boot loop with ANDROID flashing over the Galaxy S logo. I've taken out the battery a number of times and tried again always with the same result. Now what do I do ??? Please help.

I'm a bit mixed up with your descriptions.

If your on EC05 and converting to EXT4/CWM 3.0.0.6 you DON'T flash that EB13-DUALFS-KERNEL.zip once done. That kernel will not work on EC05... Instead you need to finish the conversion by flashing an EC05 based custom ROM like Syndicate v1.1.0/Bonsai 4.0.1/midNIGHT v5.2.

If your on EB13 and converted to EXT4, once you flash that DualFS Kernel, then follow up by flashing a custom ROM before you reboot the system or leave CWM and that should resolve your problems giving you a successful boot.

The ANDROID flashing over the Galaxy S logo is part of that DUAL kernel your flashing, its showing that when it was first created that custom boot animations were put into use.

If I am wrong about your progress going off your description please let me know exactly where you are in the process. What Froyo version and what you are doing so we can plan your route to get you going successfully.
