[Root] Samsung Epic 4G Official Froyo EB13 w/Optional EXT4

Perhaps you don't have the EB13 modem - were you on EB13 before you started this procedure?

Perfection. No other word to describe this. Thank you! I was nervous about rooting (android n00b) but I wanted root access on my factory 2.2.1...this is excellent work.

pardon the noob question but can't find easy answer: I'm already rroted and EXT4'd up, running truly epic rebirth, and I wanna try ACE. Do I just put ACE on SD card, and select from clockwork a la how I did TER 1.5? Do I have to wipe clean/remove TER 1.5 first?

Do I have to go from dk18 (TER 1.5) to eb 13 separately?

Hey guys,

I Odin my phone back to factory with the EXT4.

I went and got the Terminal Emulator to see if it was EXT4.

I type in "mount" and under System it says EXT4 but under Cache and Data it says RFS.

Is this correct? my benchmark was at a 1220 ish area If not how do I correct it to be right?

Thanks!

Could you please give me a better description of what you exactly did with Odin?

Odin back to factory Froyo or Eclair? Or did you use Odin to flash the prerooted/deodexed versions?

Benchmarks won't always tell us what is going on..

Please provide a bit more information as to what you did and we can help answer your question.

I downloaded the .rar file and unizpped it. It had a .pit and .tar. put the tar in the tar and the pit in the pit. Then unclicked the F. reset time"

Showed in yellow. Then did the whole thing and then said PASS.

I have used it a couple of times before.

I used Odin back to flash the Epic to the prerooted/deodexted versions.

Followed the instructions to a tea.
( Dont really fully understand what step 4 means though, just being honest.)

[Stock Flash][Odin]EB13 Extended CW2.5+RFS or CW3+ext4 2/24/2011 inc. Root+Redir. - xda-developers

Stock EB13 Deodexed EXT4 + CW 3.0.0.6

Then I went into Titanium backup and restored my phone from my previous backup that I did. It doesn't have a boot movie anymore just a sideways android logo.

I just started it up on Clockwork and it says "checking for ext4 partitions... "then says "Filesystems need to be converted to ext4."

And its doing a full backup and restore named "before-ext4-covert- ( then a bunch of numbers )

Then "Backup Complete!"

Now its doing " Checking MD5 Sums..."

thanks guys!

Boot into Clockwork - if it has orange text you have EXT4, if it has green text you used the wrong .tar file and have RFS.

UPDATE!!!!

The Clockwork mod finished and i rebooted it.

I just did the "mount" thing again, and now it shows everything as EXT4.

I just ran benchmark and its at 1508!

Looks like everything is working as planned now!

Thanks for the help! You guys rock!

I have tried the 32 bit driver software (yes, I checked my system) as well as "Kies" from Samsung. The drivers never seem to fully finish installing, and when I run the batch file, I get a "phone not connected" message. I have uninstalled and downloaded the drivers three times each, and restarted both the phone and computer.

Can anyone help? I really want to use my new phone as a WiFi hotspot, and don't want to pay Sprint's $30 per month. My old phone was Windows 6.5, and I had a program called Walking Hotspot that worked great.

if you tried this then i am sorry for suggesting it again:

Troubleshooting
If you're having problems getting Odin to recognize your phone, try uninstalling the Samsung drivers you downloaded from the link above, and download and install this driver (select "Software" at the bottom; it should say "Device(Install),USB Driver (Software) (ver.1.0)") instead.

I tried it, and it went to the screen that includes the "Repair" option. So, this is the exact same driver I have already installed several times. Thanks for the suggestion, but it didn't get me further. Still get "Phone Not Connected".

I removed the driver software, restarted both, used a different USB port, different cable, attempted to re-install the drivers, and cant get past a screen that reads:

SAMSUNG Android USB Composite Device Ready to Use
CDC Abstract Control Model (ACM) Installing driver software...
USB Mass Storage Device Ready to Use
S3C6410 Android ADB Installing driver software...

The phone is connected, and it the computer has been at this screen for 90 minutes while I was away.

are you in download mode when that pops up?
if not try putting your phone into download mode

OK, tried it with a different laptop, and only the second line remains at "Installing driver software..."

how do I put the phone in download mode?
