Is it possible to root using a mac? I used the forum search and found nothing on this topic. Google search led me to a "how to" post from another forum, but I get nowhere when following the directions to a T. Can anybody help me out? Thanks in advance :)

One glaring issue with that guide - USB debugging on the phone MUST be turned on. menu->settings->applications->development check USB debugging.

See if that makes a difference. And you're welcome :)

Cara-Dotis-MacBook-Pro:~ caradoti$ cd /Applications/AndroidSDK/tools
Cara-Dotis-MacBook-Pro:tools caradoti$ ./adb push asroot2 /data/local
* daemon not running. starting it now *
* daemon started successfully *
cannot stat 'asroot2': No such file or directory

That is what I get in the terminal. Obviously has to do with the "asroot2" file. I'm a noob and sorry if this is a dumb question, but it says in the directions to download the asroot2 from the provided link. The link just opens a page in safari and doesn't seem to download anything.

gbhil...you still awake? haha.

I'm having a problem with the recovery image. I downloaded the image into the tools folder from here [Recovery] CDMA Sprint [13-Dec-2009] RA-heroc-v1.5.2 - xda-developers I tried both versions. This is what I get in the terminal...

Cara-Dotis-MacBook-Pro:~ caradoti$ adb push recovery-RA-heroc-v1.5.1.img /sdcard/
-bash: adb: command not found
Cara-Dotis-MacBook-Pro:~ caradoti$

Thanks again my man :)

I never sleep lol. I work in front of this damn thing 16 hours a day for a while.

adb isn't in your path. Either edit your path, or navigate to the SDK/tools directory.

Do it just like you did when you pushed asroot2 over. Copy the recovery to the sdk/tools folder, navigate there in the command prompt and then adb push.
