Hey all!

Former Moto Droid (original) user here, just got a TB. Huge upgrade!

Running into an issue that I have never experienced before on my rooted moto droid.

I rooted the TB with no problems, but when I went into bootloader (clockworkmod) and wiped the cache and reformatted, I lost root. Got it back after restoring a backup.

Never had that problem with my moto droid.

Thoughts?

BTW I'm not running any custom ROMs.

ok bootloader is not clockworkmod, clockworkmod is recovery theres a huge difference **** around with bootloader and u can end up bricked

actually, clockwordmod is a custom bootloader. You boot into it to perform various actions.

So the answer to my original question is?...

Did you make sure Superuser was installed from the market?

Yes SU is installed. After wiping the cache and formatting and rebooting, I lose root. SU and all apps requiring root no longer work

i think ur mis understanding theres no way u can lose root and gain it back with a restore.. why are u saying u lose root what is the phone telling u ?

I rooted my phone. All was working well.

Installed clockworkmod - used it to wipe the cache and format.

Rebooted.

Root was lost. None of the root friendly apps were working anymore. They were either telling me I was not rooted, no root access, access denied, etc etc. Take your pick.

No "requires-root" apps were working.

Hence the reason for my question since the situation is strange. Never had that problem with my moto.

Restoring the back up I made before wiping everything got me back to a working root phone

ok some apps need bussybox from the market some roms dont come with this dont know why ... try downloading bussybox

nope....no go.

Tried to install busybox after a cache wipe and factory reset via clockworkmod - get a nasty gram from busybox :)

Root Access Denied!
BusyBox Installer was not allowed root access!

I downloaded the app "Root Checker" and got some interesting messages when I tried to verify root access:

Standard su binary location:
/system/bin/su: No such file or directory

SU binary not found in the system declared PATH

And after trying to verify busybox:

Busybox not found in the system declared path

My best guess is that the wipe deleted those essential directories/files. I may actually have root access, but if those paths are missing apps can't provide root access even though the exploit is still there.

I could try to recreate the paths but I'm too lazy. Going to restore again and get those paths and files back.

Thoughts?

UPDATE: Restore didn't work. Root has been lost :( Will have to go through the entire process again.

Did you get your root back when you did the process all over again? I have a similar problem and root checker gives me the same information. however i never did get my root to work. when I go to superuser and try to update that i get a message about how it left a file su2.3.1 on my SD and wants me to reflash it.

I am confused how you was able to run a nandroid backup if the device wasn't rooted because this is a required from for SU to work. When you say you restored and root was back what method did you use to restore? Was the screen white with colored text or black with text on page because one is Clockwork and other is stock and if you rooted the stock recovery shouldn't function..

One more thing which root method did you use?

This thread is 5 months old, and is likely based off of much older methods and versions of rooting.

To assist, please provide the following info:

What method did you use to root the phone?
Does your bootloader have s-off? (do you know what that is?)
What ROM are you running?
Any background into your specific situation would help.

Again, this thread is 5 months old, I'm guessing the OP is long gone for now. I'm also gonna go out on a limb and say that the OP probably flashed a ROM with no superuser built in, losing "temporary" root, but still having the unlocked bootloader and clockwork mod to go back and restore the backup. No use dwelling on it though.
