the .apk is free from the site, they are selling it in the marketplace as more a donation, which they stated. it helps fund future releases and all their existing efforts.
ok.... I don't know why but something about thirstyturtle's post made me want to finally root. I downloaded sholes and am currently rooting.
Gotta tell ya'... it's a little scary. The app pops up a screen (the very first one) that says "this will void your warranty" - which I already knew and fully understood. But, the point is... seeing it in black and whilt staring you right in the face and having the option to cancel with the work "recommended" next to the cancel option... and then going forward and actually doing it. Well, my testicles sucked up into my body cavity.
I sure hope this doesn't brick my phone. Thirstyturtle, I'll owe you a big thank you, or I'll hunt you down and make you suffer (haha)-- you DO know how to make a convincing argument.
Honestly, if you use the sholes app and just follow what it tells you to do, you will be good. I did it the first night i got mine, before I even knew how to use the thing and I did it flawlessly.
Go into the app
Then press menu device selection
Scroll to the bottom for autodetect select it
Now move the top bar all the way to the right should read Max 1ghz
did that , the max is 550. I went back to menu and re-selected autodetect about 5 times, keeps maxing at 55. Did it again and It went back to the "allow" screen, selected "allow" -- now, it just thought for a long time with a black screen then went to the screen that has 550 as max -- huh?
this is obnoxious, i uninstalled, refunded and re-installed and then made sure to select "autodetect" -- just in case I screwed something up and it still only allows 550 max -- wtf?
I think i discovered the exact same problem about 1 second after you -- i hadn't completed the sm updater and wasn't fully rooted yet. I'm dowloading 2.03 right now.
