Rooted and Overclocked, AMAZING!

It can't download it. But one thing do you still have the update zip on your sdcard that took you back yo stock if do rename it you don't want sm updater flashing the wrong thing

At one point during my sd card fiasco, I reformatted the sdcard and erased it. Well, I'm rooted again and in the process of downloading 2.0.3. cross my fingers, knock on wood, and take a shot.

Good luck hopefully you don't have this issue again

never mind, i unmounted the card and THEN opened sm updater. Worked fine - it must not like downloading the zip while it's connected.

yea -- when the sdcard is mounted via usb the phone itself loses access to it.

meaning: you can't mount the sdcard via usb then use the phone to download the file, which is what it sounded like you were doing.

Ya I never used a computer at all, I just left it plugged into the wall and let the updater download and handle everything for me:-)

update regarding lack of recognition via USB:

I just tried turning off USB Debug Mode (which I had only turned on for PDANet, which I clearly no longer need with my rooted phone). Figured I'd turn it off and save notification bar space. As soon as I did this, the phone stopped realizing it was plugged in via USB and didn't even offer me the option to mount. Turned it back on, and it's back working like normal again.

I completed everything I wanted to last night. I rooted, installed sholesmod 2.0.3 rom, and mounted the SD card --(the problem was USB debug mode)

I decided NOT to use home ++, with the new rom I get 5 home screens and i kind missed the notification bar.

Thanks for all of you your help last night.

Now, i keep getting FC on setcpu, I'll work on that now...

I don't think I followed the correct process. I saw this post on another thread

it's a two step process...

first you gain root access, and your system remains in tact as it was (except for your new root access).

next you flash it to a new rom that will allow the overclocking you want. if you try to use setcpu after rooting but before flashing to a new rom, it will max out at 550Mhz.

I believe (if I remember correctly) that I tried to use setcpu before flashing to the new rom. I uninstalled setcpu and reinstalled - maxes at 550. So, I may have to redo the entire process to get it done on the correct order. O well, what else was I going to do this morning?

Nah -- you dont need to redo it. I also tried to use SetCPU before I realized I hadn't done anything but root the phone.

Once you finally have it working w/ sholes2.0.3 just launch SetCPU and tell it to "auto detect" -- that should allow you to max out at 1ghz.

well, I did that and it never gave the option to "remember" it just automatically went to 55 max. I actually did do the entire process...

uninstalled setcpu, went back to rooot, re-rooted, relashed, re-installed setcpu... and it STILL maxes at 550.

This is geting annoying

Make sure you have the correct kernel installed, and also, try pressing the menu button while in setCPU and press devices, scroll down to where it says auto-detect and try it, should hopefully work.

So, I verified that the sholesmod kernel is installed. I've uninstalled and re-installed setcpu twice. Rebooted a million times. I just NEVER get the opportunity in setcpu to get to that screen that asks if you want to "remember" -- even when I use the "auto-detect" option it just defaults to 550 max -- wtf?

The "remember" thing is just when you grant it root access. After the first time you wont see it again.

You can see the apps to which you've granted root access by running the SuperUser app.

I would give BB a try, I am just way too lazy to do a complete wipe and reinstall all my apps and everything. I've done everything up to this point without losing anything I had before when it was stock

Why would you wipe your phone in most cases its not needed

I like the idea of looking in the superuser icon and seeing what has root access, then revoke the access to set cpu, uninstall and reinstall setcpu, and re-grant access. Problem is, I can't tell what program in the superuser app is granting setcpu access

I have 4 entries for /system/bin/sh - which makes me think "sh" means "sholes" - so, I'll leave those alone

I have 1 for "tether start" and 1 for "tether stop" - which should be wifi tether.

So, have I not granted setcpu root access yet?

Could someone rooted, running sholes rom and setcpu, please open the SU icon and see if you have something different that looks like root access for setcpu and tell me what it is.

I'm not too excited about switching to BB, this one is run ning smooth, except for not being able to OC using setcpu, Which I'm pretty sure is just a settings adjustment I need to find.
