Rooted? How do you update roaming ?

My signal after rooting has been hit or miss, so instead of updating my radio i tried to *228 opt 2 , i get the normal voice options my phone says activating with no options for a numerical keypad. There is a back icon option that seemingly disconnects the call. Then a icon pops up for
"Try again" which upon pushing it starts activating again then skip or cancel icons appear, pushing either warns that cancel or skipping will result in required activation every boot up. ?
I really dont wanna ask VZW how to fix this since rooting is taboo. Has anyone heard of or know how to fix this?

What Rom are you using? I have used CyanogenMod, Bugless, and Miui and haven't had this. I'll see if I can find a bypass code to PRL, but the only one I know is a bypass to program (*22899)
