Hey everybody. So I rooted my Strat yesterday in order to get wifi tether working for my new wii (and ended up not needing root as I went with FoxFi) and flashed Tweakstock. Before actually flashing the rom, I did the standard backup through KnightCrusader's CWM recovery and also backed up all my apps and data with mybackup root. Before I had my Strat I had a Droid Eris, and flashed countless roms on it, and this was the method I typically used.

So, I flashed the rom, and when I tried to restore my apps (apk+data), I got "I/O error: Unable to write to SD card. Make sure the SD card is inserted properly, is not connected to your PC, and is not full." Now, I'm able to access pics, music, etc from the card, so I know the sd card is in and mounted right, the phone was unplugged from the PC, and I have about 2GB of free space. I googled the problem and only found a few things saying it was an sdcard error. I moved all of the sd card contents over to the computer, formatted the card, and loaded it back, still the same error. I moved the rerware/mybackup folder to my other sdcard, still the same error. I then tried to restore my recovery backup, and it tells me there's an md5 mismatch. If I go look at either backup folder on the computer, it seems that the /data partition backup is messed up in both (In MBR, there's only one app there, and in the recovery backup, the data.rfs.tar file size reads as 0KB). So now I'm at a loss, as I've lost a crapload of apps and their data. And since both backups are corrupted, I can't even manually push everything via ADB.

Did I miss something that messes with the /data partition in the root process that would cause both backups to fail, yet register as having completed successfully? Sorry about the wall of text, but I figured it would be a good idea to document everything I had done. Oh, and the phone data backup (contacts, SMS, etc.) all restored fine with MBR, with the exception of the one music playlist I had at the time.

The only time I have seen CWM fail on backup is when the phone will reboot/turn itself off during the backup process, and always happens at the end of backing up /data and starting on /datadata. I am not sure what is causing it but it always happens there. Usually cleaning out the sdcard and removing unneeded apps before backup helps alleviate the issue.

Until we can get a device tree for this phone made, I can't compile CWM to test it and fix it. (Our CWM is a hacked port from the Charge.)

I don't think it rebooted in the middle of the backup. I definitely remember seeing "Backup successful." What's involved in getting a device tree made? Anything I can do to help? I know just enough about Android to be dangerous. :)

I am not sure what it takes to do it, rhcp in the irc channel was trying to do it and he was having issues (and he has experience in creating them), but I am not sure what was wrong with it. Its beyond my knowledge at the moment.

If it said backup is successful, the it should be okay. I haven't heard of any problems other than the one I mentioned. However, I did re-read the OP and noticed you mentioned MD5 mismatch (not sure why I missed it the first time)... have you renamed the folder that CWM created? it seems the name of the folder is vital to the MD5... I've renamed them and caused the MD5 to fail.

I did not rename the folder. Didn't do anything with it between the backup and my first attempt to restore. In fact it stored the backup in the same /clockworkmod folder that contained a couple of my old Eris backups (Still use the 8GB card that came with that phone). It's weird that only the apps in /data were not backed up correctly on both backups. I did try to back up the apps that are on the phone now with mybackup , and from looking at the backup folder, everything was backed up just fine. It's a mystery. I guess my point in making the thread was to try to help fix things so this doesn't happen to someone else.

By the way, I do want to thank you for helping us at least get a recovery and root on the Strat, KC.
