Hey everybody. So I rooted my Strat yesterday in order to get wifi tether working for my new wii (and ended up not needing root as I went with FoxFi) and flashed Tweakstock. Before actually flashing the rom, I did the standard backup through KnightCrusader's CWM recovery and also backed up all my apps and data with mybackup root. Before I had my Strat I had a Droid Eris, and flashed countless roms on it, and this was the method I typically used.
So, I flashed the rom, and when I tried to restore my apps (apk+data), I got "I/O error: Unable to write to SD card. Make sure the SD card is inserted properly, is not connected to your PC, and is not full." Now, I'm able to access pics, music, etc from the card, so I know the sd card is in and mounted right, the phone was unplugged from the PC, and I have about 2GB of free space. I googled the problem and only found a few things saying it was an sdcard error. I moved all of the sd card contents over to the computer, formatted the card, and loaded it back, still the same error. I moved the rerware/mybackup folder to my other sdcard, still the same error. I then tried to restore my recovery backup, and it tells me there's an md5 mismatch. If I go look at either backup folder on the computer, it seems that the /data partition backup is messed up in both (In MBR, there's only one app there, and in the recovery backup, the data.rfs.tar file size reads as 0KB). So now I'm at a loss, as I've lost a crapload of apps and their data. And since both backups are corrupted, I can't even manually push everything via ADB.
Did I miss something that messes with the /data partition in the root process that would cause both backups to fail, yet register as having completed successfully? Sorry about the wall of text, but I figured it would be a good idea to document everything I had done. Oh, and the phone data backup (contacts, SMS, etc.) all restored fine with MBR, with the exception of the one music playlist I had at the time.
