Rooted my OV with Gingerbreak... next steps for bloatware...

I'd like to

1.) Remove the bloatware.

2.) Partition my SD card so I can use Link2SD.

I have installed SuperUser, and Link2SD.

I also have Titanium Backup installed (free version), and it appears I can un-install bloatware using this app. Is that completely safe to do? No problem? I'll only be deleting the obvious stuff, AirGChat, Where, SCVGR, and that sort of stuff).

What's the easiest was to partition my SD Card while maintaining what's on there already? Is there a Windows app (or a Mac app) that I can use with the Optimus connected to my computer to do it?

You NEED to install a custom recovery (CWM recommended) and make a Nandroid backup before messing around, having root allows you to really screw up the system. And don't use the Android Settings 'Factory Reset' option anymore, it's not designed for rooted devices.

I got ROM Manager from the Market, and I did Backup Current ROM. Does that count?
I did this before doing much of anything (and I've still yet to really do anything except backup my SD card to my Mac's desktop).

Hmm, ROM Manager is really only good for installing the Clockworkmod custom recovery on the OV. You have to make a backup while booted into recovery mode. I've never used ROM Manager's backup feature, so not sure how well it works, or even if it does on the OV.

It seems to have worked. I watched it as it went thru the backup process. And I looked on the SD card and all the backup files are there. What would be the other way to do it? Can I boot into recovery from ROM Manager in order to backup manually?

You can always boot into recovery mode (without ROM Manager) by turning off phone, then hold vol-down, home, and power buttons until the LG logo. Then in there I would test a restore operation to see if that works smoothly, and if you can boot into the restored ROM. then I would copy that ROM image from the backed up dir to your PC just in case. Then you can play around knowing that you have a working backup on the sdcard and on your PC.

boot into recovery, make a backup there, then try to restore the rom manager backup.
if the restore process goes bad, you'll have the fresh backup to recover from.

if a restore goes badly enough, you'll have to have another backup to restore from.
if the md5 checksum is bad the recovery will refuse to restore it and your phone will be unchanged.
should your phone be interrupted during the restore or if it manages to restore a borked backup, it probably won't boot to anything but recovery.

I have recently gone through the exact same situation as you. I wanted to partition my SD card to increase room for apps, so like you, I rooted w/ Gingerbreak and installed ROM manager & Link2SD. However, I had to install a custom ROM to get Link2SD to work. Your next step should be to:

1) Open ROM manager and choose the option (at the top i think) to flash Clockwork Mod (CWM) Recovery.
2) flash/install the CWM recovery
3) Boot up phone & backup w/ Titanium Backup
4) Go to CWM recovery & make backup in CWM recovery (aka Nandroid backup)
5) Copy SD card to computer
6) Download a custom ROM (it'll be a .zip file, you can find em on here). I used Bumblebee 2.4.
7) Go by install instructions in Bumblebee 2.4 thread (usually on 1st page here)

Once I installed the custom ROM, I booted into CWM recovery and made a partition on my SD card for Link2SD to use for apps. Then I booted up phone, installed apps back on my phone via Titanium backup, and then was able to move them to SD card via Link2SD.

Also, Whyzor gave me some great advice; he/she definitely know what they're talking about

PS: I read various places that you can use Link2SD w/o having a custom ROM, but I couldn't figure it out and that's after using a program on a computer to partition the SD card. I just had to bite the bullet and install the custom ROM. In hindsight, it wasn't as hard as I had made it out to be.
