Rooted, no custom ROM, no NVFlash recovery - GB update?

Hey all, quick and hopefully easy question here that I haven't been able to find an answer to on xda...

My G2x is rooted but does not have the NVFlash recovery installed. I do have the "fake" ClockworkMod recovery through ROM Manager. I'm not running any custom ROMs.

When I tried to download the GB update this morning I got "Invalid Software Package", which seems to be because it's conflicting with CWM. Now, here's the dumb question part - because I didn't use NVFlash to actually flash the CWM recovery at the lowest level, I shouldn't need to use it to remove CWM, right? In other words, I should be able to go back to stock recovery without using NVFlash?

Is that right? If so, any ideas how to do it? I'd prefer not to flash a stock Nandroid backup and lose all my data but I can if necessary.

Thanks,

Matt

I'd see if you can download the "leak" from LG with the LG updater. You need to stock, but rooted is fine. I don't think the cwm recovery would be an issue that way either.

I was stock rooted with cwm permanent and the updater went fine don't see how the fake flash would screw anything up. But now I have a refurb and I'm waiting for the update this sucks
if you really want it delete rom manager and the update zip from your SD then try and update your phone again
