random reboot while tethering with a laptop. android version is 2.3.7. mod version is cm 7.1 bobzhome. governor is ondemand. cpu set at low 240, high, 748. phone was charging while this happened. any ideas? any advise? thanks.

it happens. phone overheats even slightly, some reboot switch is tripped inside and off it goes.

at least it didnt brick :P

phones reboot sometimes, nothings perfect, and not everything has an explanation. I would guess passing the data between the 3G and Wifi radios got the phone up to its shut-off temp, but thats just my opinion, becuase thats what mine used to do

do u think a triumph upgrade from the optimus v is worth the money?

No!!! I went through 6 triumphs. They're such garbage. Keep updating your ROM and that's as good as it will get on virgin mobile. For now at least. The triumph is really not worth the hassle for you.

i dont know about that other guy, but he probably bought a Triumph when it first came out.

in the first run of manufacturing a new phone, its GOING to have problems.

I bought my Optimus V when it first came out and I went thru 3 in the first two weeks. (stuck pixels, touchscreen not working, speaker broken) before I finally got a good one.

the Triumph has been out for a while and if you are careful to buy one manufactured recently (I got one from a same day shipment to the target I bought it at a few weeks ago.) then its a good phone.

mine has had NO problems. touch screen works great, no flicker problem, all the touch buttons work, the camera takes good pictures, none of that green spot that plagued first-run models.

also, there is a very good CM7 and MIUI rom. daily driver status.

in the first day of owning a phone with a 4+ inch 480x800 or higher screen, you will realize how ugly the screen of your OV actually looks. you wont believe me until you get a new phone.

Lets be real, the Triumph is ONLY worth the money if you match these conditions.

1. You can only afford/are happy with Virgin Mobile service and plans and can't get a contract phone due to financial reasons. (becuase otherwise you can get a better phone, with a higher cost plan though)
2. You are willing to install CM7 or MIUI and avoid the stock rom from the start (its the rom that has the screen flicker and button problems, not the hardware)

lol, I do find ov hard to look at. my eyes r always so tired. no, I don't want plans and yes I'm willing to install cm7. cm7 is way better than my stock 2.2.1 and it only took me half hour to learn how to root and flash recovery and install custom rom so there is only problem there. hopefully used triumph price would come down more , then I would be able to afford it.

This happened less than a month ago. Under the battery, the production date was 09/11. NOT a first production device.
EVERY Triumph will have certain issues.
These being an extremely slow GPS location (navigation on that phone is a joke)
Also being the poorly grounded touch-sensitive controls. (eg. Home, menu, back, etc.)
They also cannot hotspot.

On the other hand, you may get lucky and only have those two issues.. But more than likely, you will also get terrible reception, an annoying screen flicker, rooting issues, and various other little bugs..
I'm not trying to say people with the Triumphs have crappy phones. I'm just trying to help out so you don't show up at radioshack every morning for a week looking for another exchange.
Either wait until (if it comes out) the Optimus Black, or wait until (if it even happens) the Triumph bugs get fixed.
Also, Virgin actually gets new phones somewhat often.. You may like what they release next year more than the Triumph.
Once again, not trying to slam people with the MT. Just letting you know how it is, since I've been there and done that.
Not gonna lie though, the MT has an awesome processor, great screen size, and an HDMI output (my favorite feature)
Just a bit buggy at the least...

Haha ICS would be nice. When they first came out in Europe they shipped with 2.2, but quickly got the gingerbread update.
So your guess is as good as mine.. Most rumors are saying it may show up around Dec., but with the two new phones VM released, I don't know whether to believe it or not. I 'downgraded' from a MT to an OV, but it seems more like an upgrade to me...lol. At this point I may not even buy the OB.
Did you add IHO to your V? And did it help your reboot problem?

lol only gingerbread? I already have gingerbread! but the bigger display certainly would be very nice, not to mention faster cpu. very disappointed in those two "new" phones .. one only has a better cam, one has a keyboard lol. what is IHO? its back to normal. I have used tethering since.

Yeah, don't get the triumph, wait it out and get the black. You'll be happy you did. I've heard some pretty mixed reviews of the trimph, but mostly bad things. Even the ROMs for it are pretty buggy.

Tapatalkin it from my IHO CM7.1'd, ICS Themed Optimus V

IHO: Inferior Human Organs. An awesome CM7 port for the OV. If you have an OV, I highly suggest you flash it and give it a shot...blows the stock ROM out of the water.
Yeah, I tried a slider and it wasn't that great. Good keyboard, that's about it.
I was going to buy the HTC Wildfire S this black friday as a christma present, but realized that the internal memory in that phone is soooo small. It wouldn't be any fun to use. Nice camera though.
But yeah, try flashing IHO. If you do, you may want to keep your V afterall :p

lol , inferior human organs, I guess I already have it .. I have the bobzhome lol, 2.3.7. yeah it is way better than the stock. I looked around ... it seems optimus v does have a good number of roms .. I wonder why.. they r all android phones how come v has more roms than the intercept, triumph, and even the optimus black ..

Many reasons why....
1) Ease of ROM build (the OV has an unlocked bootloader)
2) Affordability (OV doesn't cost much, and most of these developers aren't rich and have other stuff to do in life.... a cheaper phone isn't as scary to brick, and easier to get ahold of)
3) Overall popularity (the OV is a well-known phone with many people developing mods to them every day. The more people tweaking them, the more people want the phone, and more people want to tweak them....and so forth.)

There's many more reasons why... But this is some of it. I'm just glad there's so much out for this phone. It really lets you make it exactly how you want it :p

lol cool. yeah, I might not be using the right term but there r like 5 or 6 different builds for the same version android ( say 2.3.7) and they r updated every other week too!

I think i like the update frequency the most....haha. Stock builds seem to never be updated. Custom ones get fixed all the time :B
