Rooted/UnRooted/Firmware Update Question

I am using a Droid Incredible and a while back decided to root it for fun. While being rooted and playing around with custom ROMs, was cool, I decided I'd had enough and wanted to unRoot and go back to how things were. After following all kinds of instructions and messing with my phone most of an afternoon, I finally have it back unRooted (No Superuser.apk) and S-ON at the HBOOT screen (I am new to Android, so forgive my poor wording). However, the downgrade I loaded must have been a couple versions prior to the 2.2 OTA.

My Firmware Version now reads 2.1-update1
My software number is 1.22.605.0

I have tried to install the 2.2 update manually, but I keep receiving an error while trying to load the update.zip, and I believe it has something to do with my current version. Any suggestions to get my phone back to stock 2.2, without re-rooting? Thanks for the help!

I got my 2.2 update but could not get the new update to load. I had to to get my work email on my phone, 29 hrs later I was rooted again, to many things were better than stock. My work doesn't pay for my phone so I didn't have to have my work email, battery life way better by 2-5 hrs a day between htc battery and my seido 1750, phone is faster imo.

I just left the Droid X which had a lot of support in the root/unroot world. I need to get caught up on the DInc rooting procedure, but when you rooted didn't you make a copy of the stock system files before you put a different ROM on, that is a good starting point for restoring.
