Could someone post a link to a reliable source for rooting the G2? The easier, the better. TIA

tim schofield provides some excellent step by step videos for this, and no worries because this phone is gravy to root, here is a video! enjoy!

How to Root the LG G2 (All Variants) - YouTube

Is there a fix to untrip LG rootchecker yet? I thought it could be reversed, but this video was posted just 3 days ago and he says there is no solution yet.
So if the phone needs to be serviced, carrier can easily deny the claim, and you are stuck.

yes there is a way to remove it, but involves installing a fresh firmware with a googled serial number... lg are th only ones who will check the root checker flag anyway. i would service all warranty claims through your carrier as they will never check that, nor do they care.

As far as I know Verizon will check this, which is why they made it very visible. I can't speak for AT&T or other carriers, but it sounds like you need to be really desperate to root it now that manufacturers are placing these "digital fuses" in their devices. Actually, I don't think any manufacturer said they will deny warranty if the flag is tripped, but I think XDA would be a better place to discuss these things. All said aside, The video you posted is very good resource and demonstration for those nervous rooters.

xda is where i read that carriers dont check the root flag, and that the manufacture does. i am pretty active over there. i also speak from experience. every warranty replacement i have ever done, especially in a store, they dont boot into the bootloader to check.... most of the in store reps wouldnt even know how! either way, i assume there is always a possibility

As far as I know carriers do not check the root flag. In the unlikely event that something is goes wrong with my phone. It'll just go back to Asurian who will likely just send me a refurb (which is fin as long as it look and operates as completely new). If you had to send it back to LG for some reason they may check the root flag but I expect the phone to hold up for the year that its under warranty.

I followed Tim Schofields video and it worked like a charm. So, now that my G2 is rooted, what else do I need to do to enable free WiFi tethering? I installed Wifi Tether for Root Users, but my tablet keeps saying Android Tether is out of range.

dont need root for this, actually download foxfi pda net+ app, works like a charm!

FoxFi and PDANet not working was what motivated me to root the phone. No matter what I did, I got the pop up telling me to contact AT&T to set up (pay for) hotspot service. I haven't tried them again since rooting.

So just curious do you guys have the shared data plan?

I don't....and the thought of paying extra to use the same data I've already paid for really tics me off which is why I'm currently obsessed with getting tethering to work.

Let's get back to rooting.
Unrooting aside, once it is rooted, what is the recommended ROM for G2? Is there such a thing as stock rom without all the carrier bloatware, or are you guys using other custom roms?
Honestly when I rooted wife's Samsung Galaxy, I wasn't really happy with the performance, it was OK but it was acting funky time to time and was missing stuff like 911, and for some stock functionality you would have to get apps to gain them back.

Check XDA for ROMs.

I've read through a lot of the posts on the xda-developers forum, but honestly, my eyes start to glaze over. I like tech and I'm always interested in making my device do cool stuff, but most of that is just too techie. I admit it's over my head....sorry if that makes me sound lame. I'm sure I could educate myself, but just don't have that much spare time to invest. The easy root video was greatly appreciated and worked as advertised, but now I have a stock, rooted device that really doesn't do much of anything beyond what it did prior to rooting because the next step is daunting.

At least you can get rid of forced software.
Get titanium backup and start freezing.

cyanogenmod is a good rom... 10.2 is more stable as it has most of the bugs worked out. if your not familiar with the cyanogenmod roms, its bascially stock android with added settings allowing you to tweak deeper. cyanogenomd 11 is an alpha build 2 of kit kat, so it will have some bugs... early builds of roms are for people willing to sacrifice some functionality for the sake of improving the roms via feedback, or just anxious to get the latest and greatest. i am currently running slimkat 4.4, and it is basically stock android, just like a nexus 5 with a better battery and camera. either way, even on the stock rom rooted, there are a lot of apps that require root, that will allow you to customize the phone to your hearts desire. for example you could install nova launcher, and g2 xposed... and adjust the color of your capacitive keys, the translucensy of your nav bar, etc... titanium backup will allow you to freeze bloatware, similar to disabling them but better. google top 10 rooted apps, there should be some good lists with descriptions explaining the advantages of root... have fun!

What is the latest stable bug-free (or near bug-free) CM for LG G2? I doubt that exists because there is no stable version released so far I honestly do not want to mess with nightlies or alphas as this is my primary device and I have no back up with microSIM, I would be stuck.

Looks like this one seems to be a stable alternative: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2468836&page=2
