Alright, I am looking for some guidance as the stickies and information located here leads you on endless trails and dont have any actual information.

I did the manual update of the "OTA" gingerbread.
My About Phone states:

4.5.588.MB810.Verizon.en.US

Can I root my phone while I am on this version?
If yes, Is there a one click app, like on the xoom?
If no, Is there a way to downgrade to a version that can?

Can I load a custom rom while on 4.5.588?

How do I backup my data?

I bought rom manager.

There are two leaks floating around and one of them is pre-rooted. You may already be rooted.

Look here for your Root and one-click questions:

For downgrading, look at these 3 threads:

http://forum.androidcentral.com/mot...2-rolling-back-gingerbread-leak-unrooted.html
http://forum.androidcentral.com/motorola-droid-x/79227-going-back-2-2-a.html

There are several ways to backup your data. Just depends on how you want to backup and what you want to backup. I assume you didn't make a Nandroid backup before you flashed GB.

Read some threads. All your questions have been answered many times.

And FYI, there is no OTA Gingerbread yet. OTA's are officially released builds. This is a leak. Do not expect it to perform like a released build.

Don't use rom manager on the dx, causes nothing but problems.

Unrooted .588 can be rooted with gingerbreak method.
