I am no expert, but I think the dongle is the usb cable connection -- the actual cable. I cannot help as to why it cannot find it. I hope that is of some help.

I think I have a feeling that I need to get on a computer that uses USB as a com port or buy a serial com to USB cable..I've been informed that windows XP does not allow USB to be used as com port....but newer OS do...and older OS did....but not windows xtra pitiful.I mean XP...lol.I'm gonna copy the files to USB jump drive and take them to a friends house and try on vista...it should not be so damn difficult...seriously...this is stupid.

Yikes! I just realized that it has been about 5 years since I was running XP. I was not using the USB ports much at all, if any when I was running XP. That could be the problem, that XP does not like / recognize the connection.

At one time I was able to establish connection between my laptop and my old Optimus V using Bluetooth. My laptop running System 7 HATED the Bluetooth adapter (dongle) I had plugged into it enough (as in needing to re-format and re-install everything on my hard drive) that I have not tried it again.

If you can find a Bluetooth adapter for your PC that works with XP, that may be a way to make the two connect. There also may be a way to do it thru wi-fi, but I have not found it yet.

So...would rooting be even possible via Bluetooth? PR would I be best off to just buy a dongle that connects via a serial com port to the micro USB? What method is everyone else using to root the elite? From reading the how to it's sounding like everyone was using the cable that the phone came with..I'm just going to try connecting to my grandmothers computer...she had me pick out their PC since I know what's a good PC vs a rip off..she live like a fee miles away from my new house...I'll see if the LG tool will link of her rig...of so I'll just snag it for a few hours...lol...I love family to leach off of.ha ha ha

Rooting the elite via XP works fine. Im running XP Pro SP3 on my old clunker and it rooted the elite fine. I used the simplified guide posted on android forums. Everything went without a glitch.
