Rooting for Eclair and leaked Froyo DK28

Actually my phone does need to apply the update.zip, but it does so automatically. I haven't see the stock recovery screen in a long time.

when you boot into clockwork from your phone off by holding the volume down and the camera key as you power up, it takes you straight to clockwork?
for me when i power up from a cold start like that it takes me to normal recovery and then requires me to hit update.zip manually, which takes me to clockwork.

but if i boot into recovery with my phone on - aka use rom manager and hit "boot into recovery" itll take me straight to clockwork as it should

Yup, doesn't matter how I do it I always go straight to Clockwork. I'm not even sure if it's possible for me to get into stock recovery anymore lol.

I either used an ancient method or I somehow messed up.
too bad I don't remember which method I used.

i used the method in the sticky for clockwork and i am having the same issue as shaun

I did it! I figured out it was a problem with the Samsung driver. I tried installing everything on my girlfriend's computer and it worked like a charm. I now have Baked Snack on my machine! I still can't get it to work on my computer, but since my girlfriend lives with me, I'll just use hers.

Thanks to everyone for their help!

This is EXTREMELY frustating

arcy.... try this. once you plug the phone into the computer pull down the notification bar and make sure that your SD card isn't mounted as a drive. if it is mounted then the program won't be able to mount it to copy the files.

if it says
Turn Off USB storage
Select to turn off USB storage

then you have to press that so it says

USB connected
Select to copy files to/from your computer

i know it seems backwards but it works

ragnarokx - yes, all three ports

OK so I have absolutely no clue how to mount or unmount the the SD card. So far I went into the notification area and I had three options for USB:

1- Charge only
2- Sync
3- Disk drive

I have it under charge only and tried running "run" and I get the same failure as my initial post.

EDIT - BTW all files in initial step have only been downloaded to laptop and not to phone (don't know if that makes a difference).

you do have debug mode on right? just double checking...

try to do it as a disk drive and then go into the notification bar and unmount it

Yes debugging is on
I have no clue about the mounting part (sorry I come from a smartphone os  )

I did this as well:
settings > connect to pc > charge only
settings > wireless & networks > wifi unchecked
settings > sound & display > screen timeout > never
And formatted the SD card

It shouldn't even ask you whether or not you want charging only tether mode or usb drive if you have debugging

This is all done on the computer. You should not move any of these files to your computer.

And since I don't think I have debugging on go:
Press "home"> "menu"> settings> applications> development> debugging. -make sure it is checked

When you plug in your phone you should see a red triangle with an exclamation mark inside.
If you pull the notification bar it should say "usb debugging connected"

Guys prior to replying PLEASe read all posts!

I do greatly appreciate your help BUT you are being very repetitive! Although I am a complete newb I do know how to follow instructions, I have read ALL 14 pages worth of info.

I have debug ON
I have changed usb ports
I have downloaded files to my phone
I have (i think) phone unmounted

Are you using the one-click root method? If so, I would recommend setting back to factory and trying the method I posted above. While a little more involved, you won't experience so many problems.

Here Ya Go

Did you also try a different USB cable?

How did you get to the "settings > connect to pc > charge only" option? I don't see "connect to pc" under settings.

thats why i told him to turn debugging mode on.

he says he has it on. but that option only pops up with debugging mode off.

so i did read all the posts all the posts relevant

one-click root will have to be my next option =/ Phone is actually with factory settings. I just received it two days ago so I really haven't done anything with it.

nop, I used the one that came with the phone and I don't have another one

How did you get to the "settings > connect to pc > charge only" option? I don't see "connect to pc" under settings.

If you scroll down the list in settings there is an option to connect to PC. When you go into that option the only option available is Default connection type and if you tap on it it will highlight charge only or sync. The charge only is in smaller print within the same Default connection type.

I hope that makes sense

I've never seen that settings option before. Can you upload a screen shot? ShootMe is available in the Market and it's free.
