Rooting for Eclair and leaked Froyo DK28

tether you can get from market, its only ad hoc so itll only work for a pc. I believe there is something called mobileAP but i think you need clockwork flashed to install that. to install the recovery is pretty easy as well. u just dont need to mount card for that.

ok well theres a couple problems here.

one you should not have to mount the sd card. if anything that would mess it up for most people.
the reason is, if your sd card is mounted, then it is no longer a part of the phone. therefore when your running the command, adb has nowhere to for the files to be pushed to.
ive heard it work for some people, but i recommend trying it without mount first as that is the correct way. if that does not work go ahead and mount it.

to get wireless tether, download it from xda. just search "wireless tether app" on google and you should find it. actually if you are installing epic experience, the rom actually comes with it. you just need to use my files to navigate to the folder and install it like an app youve downloaded online.

the one from the market will not work. i dont remember the science behind it at the time. bt all you need to knwo is it wont work.
Mobile AP is for people who are running the STOCK rom while rooted.

Major major addon for the op:

You can not install clockwork recovery using rom manager, right away!

Might as well say dont even do it, as once you have a custom kernel you should already have clockwork recovery

I'm going to update the Clockwork thread with this info - been meaning to do it for a while. Thanks for reminding me.

Really simple new to droid would like to root my phone. I have a mac but have access to a pc. If anyone has the time to baby me thru the steps would greatly appreciate it. I'm computer savy just need someone to help me get my feet thru the door. Thanks in advance

ya download the app if you want. But honestly I don't agree with that way.

Follow the other steps and open up a command prompt so you gain an understanding of the phone

need help rooting

I was looking to root my samsung epic 4g ad was look for a good detailed instructions on how to do it please help if u can

There's a whole thread about this.

Rag is going to move your post to that thread within the next few hours.

Anyways, go search Google for android 2.1 sdk.
Save that onto your hard drive. for windows hit start>computer>c:
Its the thing thar always starts with c:
Search Google for one click root method for epic 4g.
Download it and save it in the tools folder of the android sdk.
Hit start>computer>c:drive (hard drive)>android sdk>tools save it here.
Go find the one click root folder and open a file that ends with .exe
Its an executable folder, which is a one click version of a script (a bunch of commands)
When you get to something that says "restart desktop adb" or something like that enter your task manager.
Go to processes and end any adb processes, I had 2 running some people have 1
Then go back to the one click root folder and click on the adb file
Then sit back and wait for it to root

If it says phone undetectable make sure you have USB debugging on, still doesn't work try a different USB port.

After you root, if you plan on getting custom roms go search one click clockwork mod for epic 4g.
And do the same thing.

The replies you were reading were about an older version of procedure 2 - it was only recently that clockwork was bundled into the root process of procedure 2.

So to answer your question, if you use procedure 2 to root then yes, you will have clockwork installed automatically.

Coming from a htc hero to the epic 4g

I am wondering since I am coming from the hero is there a way to root the phone through command like with the hero, I read about the one click meathod and have used z4root on my hero when I needed to unroot the phone for service.

You can use z4root with the Epic as well - it would be the easiest method. I suppose you could manually enter the code from the one-click root, but I wouldn't recommend it.

i got the z4root to work now is there any overclock kernels and good roms to use

Just a quick question I know that you can't install clockwork mod from rom manager and the link you gave above this post for clockwork mod you have to install a custom kernel. If I use the procedure to root with clockwork mod does this Change the kernel? If it doesn't can you still use rom manager to use clockwork mod? Thanks

Before you do anything else you need to install ClockworkMod Recovery and make a backup of your phone in case anything goes wrong when you flash a ROM/kernel.

if i already downloaded the rom manager and flashed the recovery through the app does it work the same way as pushing it through the sdk. and also what about the amon ra recovery do we not have it with the epic

Kernel is untouched using Procedure 2. If you want ROM Manager support just flash any custom kernel using Clockwork.

You've attempted to install Clockwork incorrectly (try and boot into Clockwork to confirm). Take a look at this link, it explains everything in detail.

And unfortunately no, Amon Ra we do not have yet.

So if I use procedure 2 I can just boot into clockwork recovery manually and do everything in there unread of using rom manager? Has anyone had a any problems of getting it to boot into clockwork instead of the stock recovery? I just don't want to have to keep doing it cause my phone wants to use boot with the stock and not clockwork.

Yes, procedure 2 will enable you to boot into Clockwork using the manual method.

What you can do is download a custom kernel (or ROM that includes a custom kernel), put it on the root of your SD card. Boot into Clockwork, flash the kernel, and then you can use all of ROM Manager's features - you'll never have to do the manual Clockwork reboot again.
