Hi. I'm in desperate need of help rooting my HTC EVO V 4G. I've seen the steps and came across many sites with the instructions on how to do it. I attempted rooting it but didn't get far. Its too risky. I also would like if someone can S-OFF my device, too. I need someone with experience with rooting this phone or at least experience with rooting HTC devices. If there is anyone in the Buffalo, NY area that can do this for me I'll be willing to pay $30 for your service. Thank you.

What are you stuck with? I'm not anywhere near you so there's not much I can do except answer questions. Have you taken the March ota update? If so we can't verify that s-off will work. It's unknown at this point as there is no specific Juopunutbear software for that setup.
Also if something goes horribly wrong, there is no RUU available for your device :(

Also let me suggest this guide for you if you haven't taken the March ota:

Thanks. I'm just not that good with computers and I want the most out of this phone. I just have a bad feeling that I'll do something wrong. I spent hours trying to understand what was going on. Eventually, I just gave up. I also tried one-click rooting. I just feel hopeless when it comes to this. I know the steps are there but I just get frustrated having to do so much. I sometimes wish I got an easier phone to root.

We still don't know if there is s-off for the March Ota yet. Might be confirmed soon as i just saw someone claim to get s-off on 1.58.0000 but waiting to verify it was the virgin mobile evo v and not the sprint 3d. Also which software they used.

If there is no s-off you are very limited in rom choice as you will only be able to flash stock based ice cream sandwich roms. If you want to just add root access to your phone, unlocking the bootloader is far simpler than it sounds. I am going to have a very busy day tomorrow, but if you really don't want to do the process yourself, I could maybe help you on Thursday or Friday through team viewer.

I have the sprint evo 3d but just rooted a co workers vm evo v last week. No s-off though. Basically team viewer I would send you a link, and you would give me the code from your end. It let's me access your pc remotely. We could go on chat and I would have you do a few physical things like change a couple settings, plug in the phone, etc. I would run the commands and get you to the point where you press volume up on your phone to confirm the unlock.

Basically I would run the commands for you, you would have to do anything on required on the actual device since I won't have access to it.

Also s-off was just confirmed for OTA! Finally, been waiting weeks for someone to test. I wouldn't be able to do the wire trick for you though :p

I'm heading off to bed. I'll check in tomorrow!

Alright. Sounds good. Thanks a lot man. I really appreciate that you are willing to help so much. I'm all for it. I would just need the steps to go through with the process. Get back to me when you can.

I didn't forget about you. The last couple days have been chaos. I can probably do this with you tomorrow if you are available. We should probably set aside about 40 minutes to an hour. It really doesn't take long but I don't know how long it will take doing it remotely.

I know this is a few months late, but are there any OTA updates that would stop the root/s-off process from working properly?

Thanks in advance.
