I jsut got my htc evo in the mail like 10 min ago and activated it, can someone chat with me and walk me through it i would really appreciate it

I did and im a bit confused i have android 2.2 and its 004 and hboot is 2.10.001 so should i use

[ROOT][GUIDE] HBoot 2.02/2.10 SOFF - There Will Be Root - Upd. 01.10.11 - xda-developers

That is one option, or you can use the Universal Auto Root or Unrevoked3.3+ -

They are all options to root, the one you linked to here is the most "involved" process but the plus side is that you'll be a lot more familiar with the workings of your EVO - I'd say personally that's the best way to go.

I would suggest you read that thread, get the files and then read it over again and kind of get the idea of what you'll have to do.

ok thanks will do , what files do i need, and i want to back up my rsa keys to save my 4g just incase

All the files you need are included in that thread, as well if you read down it a bit you'll see that one of the first things you do, is backup your 4G RSA keys.

hey the fredelemnet what do you think of the autoroot link he gave me jsut as good?

It's an automated process of the first link you posted, it's good a lot of people use it. The only draw back I have with it is that you don't really learn too much. If you want to get it done and easy, that's a good way to go though. Just make sure you follow the directions to the T (as far as having a clean installation).

If your talking about me I am a girl. And it works with no issues. Unless of course you don't follow the directions. And yes you do learn a decent amount doing it that way because half of it you have to do yourself. It is a good way to root your phone. Much better than unrevoked3.

thnx that could have been an epic fail! So before I start What do I need to download just autoroot v2.2 full zip? and thnx again your fuys support is truly awesome

Yup, you'd get the full one, I'm not sure of the version but as long as it's the latest you're good to go.

If anything goes wrong, don't freak out and start doing crazy stuff to your phone, just post in the thread at XDA or in this thread here and we'll help you out. (sometimes people go crazy and it hurts more than it helps) - that being said, you'll be fine! Just do each step and follow the directions.

You should read the last few pages on the XDA thread to see what other users are recently experiencing as well.

ok thnx im downloading it now, this autoroot doesent show how to do a nandroid backup of the rsa keys and wimax(i want to do this before attempting to root)

Read the whole thing and it will tell you exactly what you need to download.

Since this happens before root on the other thread you can try just following the directions for this on the first thread you posted - I'm not sure what files you'll need from that thread's download though.
