Rooting HtC Evo 4g brand new

thats why i was trying to read the instructions on that method cuz i did not use it...and i noticed the same thing.

so technically do the z4root to backup....then reboot and run the ruu...then start the root process.

i broghut that up earlier "ok did that it also sais if i have tried rooting before it will not work , does z4root(temporary root ) count? or can i proceed" and they told me to continue and if it doesent work run ruu and start over...............how do i run ruuu ???????????

wtf thefredelement is not doing the work on wtfm8's phone so how can he possibly of bricked it.

Well, no telling what else may have come up in his life. I sometimes think, because of experiences like these, that it would have been nicer if someone experienced on these forums would have offered to walk the op through each step in the process to begin with. That way, both parties would have known exactly what method/step he's on, and the op could have known that somebody would stick with him throughout the process (assuming they had the time to begin with). Problem is, "everything's in the stickies."

It is great that so many here ARE VERY helpful. I just wonder if the time would be better spent in "teaching" mode, instead of "disaster recovery" mode.

no i didnt, no one told me to , and its a mini sd so i ant takei t off the evo and put it on via comp ....to make things worse the ruu or whatever is a messed a file that wont even extract from winzip

well technically if you rebooted after doing temp z4root....you should be fine. i would think.

did you copy the ruu to your sd card??

Looking at many of the rooting how-to's from a quality control perspective, they are far from fool-proof. That's why I still hesitate to start my root. Even the how-to videos are jacked: "ok, so now you want to install these drivers...ok, they're already on my computer 'cause I already downloaded them, but if you were doing this from scratch, you wouldn't see everything I'm showing you on the screen right now." WTH?! :)

ok this is my thread and my issue if you cant help or answer my question dont post!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

^thats what i used...and that method is pretty much foolproof cuz you will know exactly what step goes wrong if indeed something does go wrong. just my opinion tho.

I agree totally with all the files already installed on the youtube videos until I watched unrevoked and it REALLY was 1-2 click. I'm running cm7 (gingerbread) now because of unrecoked. Evo 4g

You're bricked not me. Maybe you should have waited more than 10 minutes to root you're phone when you just got it. I was trying to be supportive and asking my friends on android central for help with a smile but with your attitude good luck bro. I hope your phone is ok.

3.70.651.1_PC36IMG.zip(DONT USE UNLESS YOUR PHONE CAME WITH IT)

should i be downloading RUU to restore 3.70.651.1 (DONT USE UNLESS YOUR PHONE CAME WITH IT) (Thanks to 911Sniper for the original mirror) instead???

correct you want the RUU to restore..connect your phone via usb....and you should be able to run that RUU and it will get you back to working stock.

You'll fix it. One of my friends that is a regular on this site has Skype. He will be here in a few.
