Rooting Inspire to Gingerbread

I'd like to root my Inspire to Gingerbread. I am new to the Android OS and obviously don't want to brick my phone. I am current running stock 2.21 Software 1.84.504.11. Can someone point me to an EASY way to root my phone? :-\

The simple one click by bubby with the YouTube video to follow along its hard to mess up if u follow to a t. I have only rooted this phone and an aria and other than that I'm a noob too. You can do it!

Both methods work fine as long as you follow instructions, but Bubby's method is nowheres near a one click metbod and shouldn't even be called that. Both methods require creating a gold card. With the new version of the hack kit, once you create the gold card, you put the phone in usb debugging and charge only and click to run menu number two. Once it completes, put it in usb debugging and charge only again and click to run run menu number three. Once it completes, you are ready to flash a rom and radio. No need to freeze and follow a video for instructions on entering terminal commands. In fact, you don't even need to install a terminal manager.

You can get an app to back them up and then restore, like Titanium Backup. Otherwise, you will need to re-install them. If you use the hack kit, it will leave you with the downgrade rom, so you will need to immediately flash the the latest stock Inspire rom and radio or a custom rom of your choice and possibly a matching radio. If you use the one click, it will leave you with a stock rom and radio, although I'm not sure if it is the latest.

I used "one click" method and I'll never figure out why it's called that . Oh well, it worked so I'm not complaining. Hack kit does sound a lot easier.

When the one click was born, it was a less complicated method than the hack kit at that time. attn1 has really streamlined the method to the point I would recommend the v11 hack kit method for rooting. But as I previously stated, they both work fine as long as you have a good gold card and follow instuctions to a tee.

i really do want to root my inspire just a little nervous. Is rooting safe, if i had to can i unroot, are custom Roms stable.

Rooting carries the same risk when ever you mess with the base operating system of something. Are there risks? Yup always will be. Its called human error lol. It is confusing? It can be at first. Is it worth it? Well that depends on you. Are you happy with the way it works? Do you have the time to put into maintaining a custom rom? How are you researching skills? a Custom rom is not always gonna act as you might expect, leading you to trying to find an answer. Most Roms are stable for the most part. At least the ones I have tried and put together. Just make sure to read up and do your homework to save yourself head aches and some grey hair lol

If for whatever reason and i had to unroot it can I? what about down the road a new update comes out can you just update it and loose root or will that jack everything up. i use to do a lot of jailbreaks on my ipod touch 1st gen and second and i loved the way when you wanted it back it was super easy. i just dont want to root and then be stuck if i want to go back to stock. thanks

Ok seriously NO ONE has tried superoneclick??? Yes there is a one click method to root this phone use superoneclick click root and its done. I also recommend clicking on enable non market apps. One its a great way to check that rooting was successful and two if you're rooting you're probably going to be installing apps that you didn't get in the market.

SuperOneClick temp roots the phone. Once you reboot the phone, it is no longer rooted. The enabling of installing from unknown sources does stick. Also, it is not a full root as it does not give you s-off.

Super one click doesn't usually work with "high-end" devices as a rule of thumb. This mail because manufacturers employ better and more protection on these phones and require multi-step processes to root.

Highend doesn't always matter. Currently, SOC will root the Motorola Atrix, yet it won't root the Motorola Bravo. What type of security used is what matters most. The Inspire has a nand lock, which has not been cracked. The only reason the Inspire can be perma rooted at this time is because the process involves downgrading it to a Desire HD and rooting it as a Desire HD. It is the downgrade process that SOC won't do.

I've only had my Inspire for three days (first Android device ever) and I rooted it this morning with bubby's method. Everything went exactly like it did in the video. The only problem I had was that the newest version of ClockWorkMod didn't work when I flashed/updated it, but that was an easy fix thanks to someone replying to my question with the solution (thanks again, fernandezhjr!).
