Is it worth doing onthe tab? I see I can only get screen shot by having it rooted, but is there any other benefits of doing this with Z4? Any help would be apprectited. ;)

First thing I did after rooting was install Titanium backup. Then I "froze " every app that started with "Verizon " as well as Blockbuster, Nova, Let's Golf, Media Hub.... Once I see how much, if any, future update support Samsung is going to provide, I'll permanently delete them and start looking for custom roms.

Don't sound to promising to me. Don't think I'm gonna root then. Tab is working great now without it.

I rooted so I can tether. That's all. Z4 root worked great.

You can take a screen shot on the Tab without being rooted. Hold the back button at the bottom of the tab, and then press the power button.

IMO, just being able to use Titanium Backup alone is worth rooting. It has saved my fanny more than once. Now, with its ability to backup to Dropbox, I feel it's indispensible...if you lose your Tab, you can do a restore on a new one and not lose anything. With Z4Root, rooting is actually no big deal.

I had a problem with my camera and had to get a replacement and because I was rooted and had everything backup it was easy and fast to set up the new tab. And like said above getting rid of unused apps is priceless.

I am not rooted, but I use Launcher Pro Plus on my tab. It has the ability to hide the icons that you don't want showing in the app drawer. I understand the draw of rooting, but I personally haven't found a huge need for it. The bloatware is unseen on mine, and I basically forget that that stuff is even there.

That's an excellent way to hide the apps from yourself, but not the system. That's the benefit of "freezing; " except for the space they occupy, frozen apps use no system resources.

Look at the rooting thread for dl09 that droidxcon started today. He has a download link. Let me know if you need me to link to the thread.

Edit: Here is the link. The rest of the exploits on the post are Samsung Fascinate specific, I think. Ask DroidXcon about the other two if z4 doesn't work.

Having been there and done that..(rooting dx) due to my inexperience, i caused headaches for myself that i can ill afford being in undergrad school n all, however, is this the only way we can get the tab to be able to have video calls ? I use launcher pro like the other post, seems to work best, others crash it.. (dxtop pro) multiple times. I have already traded in a defunct for a new.. and didn't like having to go reset again,,, like on droid..i don't like the bloatware either.. but.... any suggestions ? what is tapatalk, btw.. i see it everywhere.. i use vlingo, but i am from the east (indiana) and not even onstar understands my voice, which is a pain in the arse.. is that a speech to text ?

No tapatalk is an app that allows you to connect to all the forums you use and post to them from w/in the app. If the forum is supported. Give yahoo messenger a try for video. You will need to download the plugin for video as well. They are both in the market place and mine worked great. I am not rooted either. I did a wifi only test.

If you have rooted your Tab I recommend using Bloat Freeze to stop the bloat. If you have not rooted your device but are looking to try Z4Root simple and works like a charm.

I am rooted (I always root for Baracle wifi) but haven't frozen anything ever. My tab seems fast and I never get any low memeory warnings. What is the point of freezing bloat?

Thanks for recommending Bloat Freezer, I am glad people find my app useful!

Freezing bloat basically makes the app stop running on its own and makes it invisible to your phone (tab in this case).

SprintNFLLive (or whatever it is called) just for one example starts when your phone starts and you don't even know it and is constantly in the background downloading something, I would guess scores and stats and I have NEVER even opened it. Using up battery, processor, memory and even data.

Freezing is also better than deleting because if you delete/uninstall the bloat you will never be able to get OTA updates again unless you put them back where they were and reset the UNIX permissions correctly.

Ahhhh battery life. Didn't think of that. OK. Ill check of out. Thanks
