I own a Samsung Galaxy S 4g [sgh-t959v] and I want to update it to either Ice Cream Sandwich or Jelly Bean, but I can't root it. (Also I've never been able to sign into Google Play for some reason, it always tells me that there are network issues no matter what so to download any app I actually transfer them from the computer to the microsd via Real APK Leecher)
The phone is running Gingerbread 2.3.6 and I've tried just about everything.
I've tried SuperOneClick (1.7, 2.3.3, and 1.9.5 both on pneuter and zergrush) and it invariably just freezes until i force quit it.
I've tried Gingerbreak v1.2 and z4root, but Gingerbreak gets stuck in the middle of the root and z4root always crashes and slows down my phone till the next reboot.
I've tried rooting it from a .zip file on recovery mode, but my phone can't detect it.
I really don't know what is going on or what I'm doing at this point, but it sucks. Please help!
I've always had USB debugging on, I have the driver installed, and I've even formatted my sd card.
I feel like everything is outdated...this is frustrating as hell

Let me know if you need any more information to help or something

Just to verify your using the T Mobile (Vibrant) version of the Galaxy S?

I'm going to move this thread over to the T Mobile/Vibrant forums where it might get a little better attention.

My thoughts is you may need to use Odin and get the device flashed clean and reset on Gingerbread and hopefully it will resolve your issues.

I actually am not sure if it's the Vibrant because when I boot the phone up it goes from a "Galaxy S" screen to the "Samsung" screen whereas I've seen video tutorials on rooting the Vibrant where there is a "Vibrant" logo that appears first. However, the model number of the Galaxy S 4g and the Vibrant seem to be the same...so because of the latter I don't think there should be a difference.

Thanks for moving the thread.

Ok tell me about this Odin. I never looked into it too much because it confused me
