Tonight's Update

I am successful at flashing 3.02 every time now. I have also found the file that flashes the phone from 3.02 to 4.04. I have also found the correct commands to dump that file to a space on the phone that can be read/written to instead of the read only space it defaults to. This means if we can find a way to insert root into this update, then we are golden. The link to the file that your phone pulls down is this :

https://pvzwmdmcdn.vzw.motive.com/firmware/LG_VS920_ZV3_TO_ZV4.bin

The file itself can be opened with WinRAR, but says it is signed by SignAPK. It's getting to late for me to work on this myself, but if someone else wants to work on getting root into the update and posting instructions, I will be more then happy to try and flash it in the morning.

Yep, I've seen the dump and did one as well as his was incomplete. It was a good starting point to see how some of the files were being organized. The down side is that you can not dump certain system files without root and those are the ones I would love to be seeing right now.

I'm a bit of a computer geek and apple nerd but i'm just switching over to android so i don't know anythying about this stuff yet but the first person to get give us root on this godly phone from hell, i will personanly send you $20 in the mail to show some apprecialtion since i can't do this myself. good luck dude. sounds like your close! keep up the great work!

Add me there as well.
$20 on its way..once i get root access to get rid of these nasty bloatwares......

$20 from me as well and Im sure a few more would kick in judging from the amount of people looking for a root.

Found another update file while digging thru the verizon ota update website.

https://pvzwmdmcdn.vzw.motive.com/firmware/LG_VS920_ZV2_TO_ZV3.bin

This file confirms the existence of a V2 firmware. Unfortunately, it also confirms that V2 was on Android 2.3.5 as well and their for not exploitable with Zergrush. I have yet to find a copy of the full V2 firmware, but finding this update file will hopefully give some insight into what is really inside of V3 (aka what ships with your phone natively).

I haven't given up hope, but I am hitting some serious walls each time I try a new path. Here is where I am currently at.

The .bin file is a full flash of the nand in YAFFS2 file system with ext4 and fat pages (partitions). So far, no one has had any luck reading this file system out side of a developers nand board. I also found out that while reading the raw binary info of the file, I had it laid out wrong. It is 32 bit, not 16, which makes reading the file much easier. It also makes mounting the image that much harder. The S2 apparently uses the same file structure and people have been fighting for ways to mount these images since early last year.

I will be getting in contact with the guy that broke the Droid4 to see if he'd be willing to do a bounty as I'm running out of options unless I can see the guts of the system soon.

New here, want to root my Spectrum as well. As stated by someone earlier, I will kick in twenty bucks to the pool as well. . . I love this phone, will not give it up, don't care for rooting (had problems with my old Moto Droid when rooted), but must remove the bloatware! Please keep working on this guys as I am too stupid to figure any of this stuff out! Thanks!

OMFG... 5 minutes with access to my phone and Dan J. Rosenberg was able to root my phone. I will post a link to it as soon as he publishes it. The dude is just scary good....

I have the latest drivers, phone set to USB Debugging and Charge only. WiFi off. When I run the .bat file, it just goes to waiting for device and never progresses. Help!

You need to be in USB debugging mode. Do this by connecting USB and selecting Internet connection and connection type Ethernet

As I stated above, I have USB Debugging on. I have done more work and now it does the following:

adb server is out of date. killing...
*daemon started successfully*

And then it stops.

Saluki, if you are in charge only, you are not in debug mode. To be in debug mode, you must be in internet connection -> ethernet. If you do not see the little debugging icon in the upper right corner, you do not have it set correctly. By the message you are posting, you are hanging where ADB talks with your phone. I would honestly start at the above. If you do see the little android bug icon, then make sure you are using the official cable that came with the phone.

OK, I changed to Internet Connection/Ethernet and I AM using the cable that came with the phone and still no luck. I am wondering if the ADB drivers aren't installed correctly. I downloaded them, how do I install them? There are three files in the download folder.
