I have an unlocked bootloader Nexus 4, 4.4.2. I do not wish to wipe my data before rooting the phone, is there a way to do so?

Thanks.

I'm no expert at rooting, but I dont think i've heard of a way to not wipe your data. I would back it up before you proceed.

If your bootloader is already unlocked you don't have to wipe anything, rooting doesn't wipe your data. Just install a custom recovery or use fastboot to root, a decent guide lies within the stickies.

If you're going from pure stock to unlocking the bootloader and rooting, I don't believe there is a reliable way to save everything. You MIGHT be able to do some workaround to back things up but I'm not positive.

Yes, you can. Since you already have an unlocked boot loader, all you have to do is flash a custom recovery such as twrp or clock work mod and then boot to custom recovery. Flash the zip file required for root and restart
