I doubt its possible, as you need to use Odin which can only be ran on Windows to flash the rom

on my old Zte you could unlock, root and flash just by usin the sd

wana factory reset so i wana root to backup apps+app data 1st

wish id made that decision in spring mate before i got myself in a crapload of trouble.

No, a chomebook is essentially a tablet with a keyboard. It's made for web based tasking only and you cannot run any programs on it. It's a nice piece of hardware, but it's far from a straight up computer.

I don't know Funky - one of the root methods (the one I used) didn't involve writing a new ROM; it just used adb to perform the root. Maybe it's possible to run adb within a Terminal Emulator session and accomplish the same thing? You'd probably have to get in touch with the OP of the exploit to see what he thinks. I'll see if I can dig up the link.

Will this work on SIII Mini?

Following the links to the original thread, it says "This will not work on Jellybean." Since I'm sure the Mini is on Jellybean (Android 4.1) or higher, I don't think it will work for you.

Also, in spite of the name, the SIII mini is really a completely different phone than the SIII, so if it works at all there's a pretty fair chance it would break your phone.

There's a tool called Framaroot http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2130276 that's the only solution I'm aware of that doesn't require a PC, but it didn't work on my Verizon SCH-i535. YMMV.
