So, I'm brand new, and as I unbox my Optimus V, and get ready to root it, my main reason I realize to root it is 'just because I can'.
Can anyone provide me with a better reason for rooting this phone, i.e. what are some great aps I can only get on this rooted and or what are the main advantageous?

I mean, I'm gonna 'just cause I can', but then what???

For me the whole point of rooting is to be able to flash a custom recovery so I can then flash ROMs. There is an unending list of reasons to pick one ROM over the other all which are opinion supported. With root/custom recovery you will also have access to Gingerbread based ROMs and that is favorable since Android 2.3 Gingerbread has not been released for the Optimus V yet. Root alone has a few helpful benefits as in CPU overclocking, titanium backups, and alot of other apps that need root access to devices within the phone like GPS/3G/WIFI/SENSORS/MEMORY/SDCARD etc.

Even if you just stick with stock VM ROM, rooting will allow you to remove the bloatware such as Where, etc. You will also be able to use apps that require rooting such as apps2sd which allows you to move most apps to your sdcard, I have 119 apps installed, which would be impossible on an unrooted stock phone.
