Rooting while keeping stock ROM?

Hi,

I've got a Galaxy S6 model SM-G920F (GSM).

I want to root my phone in order to get applications that cannot be downloaded without root access, but I wish to stay on touchwiz and keep the features that came with the stock firmware, Is it possible? Would I be able to receive automatic updates directly from Samsung?

What is your current build number? If you are on 5.1.1 you aren't gonna be able to root.

If you are on an older 5.0.2 build you may still be in luck.

Yes, I'm on 5.1.1.

Is it really not possible to root any Galaxy S6 on 5.1.1? What about all the tutorials on YouTube to root 5.1.1?
Is it blocked permanently or it can be root in the near future?

You can if you are on G920FXXU2BOFN but you will trip your knox counter. Thus voiding any warranty and will never be able to use Samsung Pay. Sorry I forgot some international models have root on 5.1.1 with a unikernal flash.

If you do not mind voiding your warranty and not being able to use Samsung Pay, then when you root your device it will be the same as stock besides having root permissions via SU. TW and such will all be there unless you flash a custom/non stock rom.

Yes, I'm on G920FXX which mean that I can root my device? Sorry for my ignorance, but what is exactly unikernal flash?

I don't have any warranty and honestly I don't care about Samsung Pay. Is it possible to restore everything back to the previous condition including knox counter? Also, Would I be able to get OTA updates after the root?

The device has a 1 year manufacture warranty on it. Without proof of purchase, you will be covered up until April 10th 2016. With proof of purchase, you will have a year from the purchase date.

You flash a custom kernel to be able to flash TWRP recovery and gain root access.

Once Knox counter has been tripped, there is no rolling it back... EVER.

OTA's are a no go. You would have to unroot to take an OTA or wait and see if they release an already ported update.

There seems to be a lot of confusion about rooting an S6. Most people think it's impossible, but actually it's quite easy. The only catch, as has been said, is that it will trip Knox and (as of right now at least) there is no way to ever undo that.

If you want to root, check out the guide at highonandroid.com. It just takes a minute or two to do it.
