Rooting your infuse: Why?

This is my first Android phone, which I love. I'm okay with tech - I've always been able to fix bugs in my PC and BB just by googling, but have no tech background, can't write code, etc.

I have read with interest about rooting android phones; it appears that lets one delete the bloatware apps and perhaps even extend battery life? Or perhaps customize it beyond what is otherwise possible?

So my question is, what are the benefits of rooting your phone? What will one get out of it more than is available now?

Thanks!

Do you guys have a link to a tutorial on how to root, get tethering free, deleting att apps? Also which rom should I use?

Just look at the top list on the forum here. There's a complete section on rooting.

Where does one go to learn this in the "simplest terms"
I do not know computers, much less smart/droid phones
I have read thru all the threads, found the Kies and loaded them on this laptop
Where they(77MB) went I have no clue?????

Link to SuperOneClick . . . . .I have no clue
DeBug? . . . . I have no clue

Did I buy this Infuse for not?,thought I was the adventurous type
But I think I wasted my money and pretty much want my mommy . . . . . :(

What in the Good Lords name are you talking about? lol

Rooting is your first step into taking control of your phone. But its only the beginning. For instance, You need to be rooted to flash Clockwork Recovery and you could start installing custom zip files or flashing roms. Tinkering with system files but be careful. Read up on how tos and learn how to do the stuff before you go barging in. Jumping into stuff without reading up can cause your phone to brick. But most of the time, you can revive a brick by flashing the stock rom. For me, Flashing the stock rom wasnt like how it was when I had the phone when I first got it. So I stick with the Custom Rom I have installed now. And when gingerbread gets leaked, there will be roms created also.

We dont get to much into that here in the Infuse forums, but XDA Developers website is full of the Devs that do that kind of stuff :)

Ive read all I can find till I can almost quote it.
Even the stuff at XDA
I loaded the 77MB file from Samsung(Kies)
Its some where on this laptop,if I ever find it how do I get it into the Infuse?
Then there is the debug mode ?(haven't a clue what that means or how to do it)

Again,I know very little about computers (very little)

Then there is the SuperOne Click, where is the download for that? how do I get it into the phone?
The only need I have for rooting is to tether to this laptop.
All the other stuff is basically irrelevant to my needs.

Just kidding about the mommy thing . . . . ;)

Search YouTube, very detailed videos there.

Rooted last night. Took forever for me to get it right. Definitely more work than an iphone jail break. That being said it was worth it. I flashed the infused custom rom and it is fast. It also removed all of the att bloat. Plus the fact that as soon as gingerbread gets leaked from our Canadian friends soon when the infuse releases up there, there will be awesome custom roms with gingerbread long before att releases the update to us.

Go to xda and explain your problem they can certainly help. May have been an error when you flashed a rom. What rom you used? Did you clear all data first?

Didn't get to flash anything, rooted, loaded bloat freeze ,dropped a few of the bloats
loaded LookOut,set it up,made a few calls.
Phone set by its self plugged in and it just started freakin out with the FC pop up
Plugged it back into SuperOneClick and manage to get it unrooted
Tried wiping/resetting and still have no solution.
Guess I'll see AT$T first thing Mon and see what charming news they have.
I guess all the Droid experts take the weekends off on the forums ?

Anyone else kill their new phone in less then 3 Days ? LOL :p
