Rugged Armor and Samsung Rugged Protective

I think Samsung did a very good job for it's Rugged Armor series 2018. Love the case since S9 Plus specially the kickstand is very handy.

I have over 15 different cases and I believe that the Samsung Rugged is the best all around case for the Note 9.

I want to get the silver version also.

I got the silver. The kickstand is very nice on it. I do question the drop protection with it though. So you think it's considered heavy duty?

Definitely good protection on the S-Pen corner.

That's the only thing I don't like on the otterbox defender is spen corner. Catch 22. Either you have big opening to get the spen out easily or more protection but harder to get out like the poetic revolution for example the spen area is just brutal. I might order the supcase and armadillotek to see what the built in screen protect is like but I got a feeling I'd end up back with my defender.

Yea, I've never been a fan of the Defender's hard plastic shell rubbing up against the sides of my phone. I do have the Defender but doubt I'll ever use it.
It doesn't rub against the side of the phone, the shell has a top and bottom which clips into itself and doesn't give. You can take the shell without the phone in it and see that.

The Defender in my opinion is the best protection you can get. My phone has survived several drops on concrete, even screen side down. The trade off is it's a bit bulkier than other cases however the newer versions are better than in the past.

I don't have the Note 9, currently have the S9, and I was really impressed with some of the improvements they made with the Defender. The plastic shell is reinforced especially where the clips are and inside the rubber casing there are new raised ridges which help absorb impact. You can take it and bounce the corners off of a desk and it bounces back like a rubber ball. The s9 version is also thinner than the past versions. I had one for my Note 8 also.

Do you think the unicorn beetle is as protective?

I actually have that one as well. It feels substantial and there is a CNET video where it faired the best out of a lot of cases in extreme drops. I think the OtterBox is a little better plus I don't like the built in screen protectors and the Unicorn has that where the Defender does not.

I thought about ordering it. Only other thing is that they're very stiff so they might not absorb much shock.

Update on the Samsung Case. Been using it daily and got used to the weight difference and I love it.

Only had it for about a month now and the power button is already wearing pretty good.

No other places on the case are rubbing yet.

Well my father-in-law broke the front bottom right of his Note8 while using the Defender and he has no idea how it broke, so I'd say the hard plastic inner shell is the leading culprit with so many others reporting the same. I guess you're the kind of person who has to see it to believe it, but that's an expensive gamble and I'd heed the warnings.
I'd never by a case with a hard inner shell.

I've had mine for a month also and the power button still looks new. I typically turn on the screen and unlocked with the fingerprint but use the power key to turn the screen off. Do you use the power key to turn on the screen?

That's the thing I normally dont! 90% fingerprint unlock

I use Accessibility, Dexterity/interaction, Assistant menu and just use the screen off button. Thanks to another forum member for pointing it out and now I never use hard buttons. Better than any screen off app for me.

Yes, the assistant menu buttons is great. Also if you use edge panels there is one called Softkey Edge (you have to download it from the edge panel store) that has the recent, home, back, screen capture and lock buttons on the edge panel.
