Rumor: Android 2.2 Hitting DROID1, Incredible and DROID X Next Friday?

Now the real speculations should be about how long it will take the hackers to root 2.2.

That will be cool to watch.

well all you negative nancys looks like this rumor might not have been to far off the mark after all.. with the HTC, samsungs and now Droid one getting froyo, we may be in luck and have this one turn out to be true ;)

I, too come from the cb.com environment and am used to seeing two-four months minimum of rants and speculation before anything happens...that being said, I am feeling a lot more patient about it than I did on bb. There was always some major flaw I was sick of that I was anxious to see fixed. I am excited to see my phone be faster, but other than that, I'm pretty happy with it. (if I wasnt on verizon I might be a little more impatient about the free wifi hot spot thing, but eh, whatever.) So whenever it rolls out, fine by me.

I don't know how anyone could be patient about this update lol we're not talking a few new widgets and wallpapers, this is FROYO BABY. This is gonna be huuuuuuge.

Anyone who thinks otherwise is either undermining this as just another OTA or they don't care for phone stuff enough, which would surprise me as why post on a phone based forum if you don't give a damn about it lol

Yea I wish it was next week, but I feel like it won't be for the dx. But I'm really excited for it because the change when I put froyo on my droid was pretty dramatic.

Well if Evo 4G's are getten it on Aug3 then I would guess the VZW Droids will get it soon after...

even with the evo/droid1 rollout, i could see the x taking 2 more weeks just because of the blur implementation. i do think it will be out by the rumored droid 2 release date of aug 12

I also come from the CB.com environment. I take all rumors with a grain of salt. I will say that pretty much all sites on the web right now are reporting that we should get it Aug 6th so at least everyone is unified in their rumor for once!

This was going to be my guess also. I was thinking (hoping?) about a week after the EVO/Droid release but I can easily seeing it take up to 2. No source, just speculation.

To clarify my earlier post, what I was saying was that compared to the excruciating needs for os updates on bb devices, froyo-though totally awesome- is an exciting upgrade, not a crucial make-or-break revision. (like the way bbos6 is gonna make them sink our swim)
Anyway, don't get me wrong, I still want it!

I doubt the logic (if not the timeline) because the same version of blur is on the Droid 2...which is already GTG with 2.2. I won't be surprised if we see the initial Droid X rollout close to that Friday, but if they are trying to work in other software fixes (/cough battery life) then it could certainly slip back a week or two. Still, I do believe that there is a strong incentive to have them in place before the big Adobe/Flash is on everything but the iPhone presser, so I doubt more than two weeks.

Either way, it can't really come soon enough, can it?

Does anyone know how long it takes to develop a major update like Froyo? And once it is considered done, then how much testing does it go through before release? We already know there is another big OS upgrade coming later with Gingerbread. So, would it be correct in thinking that 3.0 isn't finished, but Froyo is...and they plan these upgrades a long time in advance? I don't know what "a long time" means, but I guess a year out would be reasonable?
