I know it is only a rumor at this moment, but it is a rumor that makes sense given that the Nexus 7 doesn't have an SD card slot...

I for one am bummed and I think that it is a deal killer for me...

You?

Nexus devices never had SD card slots. Nexus one, Nexus S and Galaxy nexus never did. so it is never a shocker. This is expected.

I remember Google had an explanation for why they wouldn't add a SD card. btw, i dont really care about SD card.

Nexus one does have a microsd card slot. I have one :-P the nexus s was the first nexus without one. My only concern is why there isn't or won't be a 32 or 64gb option. Or why there will even be a 8gb option, smartphones are not tablets! Unless Google decides to give everyone 32gb of Google drive storage! But again it's not the same as on board storage

I agree with you 8GB storage on a phone in 2012 makes no sense to me. I would think 16GB would be a bare minimum with 32 and 64 options.

I'd be more surprised if it had an SD Card to be honest. I just hope the 8GB thing is fake, what a waste of a great phone if true. My setup requires a 32GB phone, I'm really liking the One X+ (In my opinion would have been the perfect next Nexus). It's crazy how just looking at my Galaxy Nexus the fact there is no labels on the front makes the phone look very sleek to me. I hope they continue that trend on the Nexus line. I am starting to wonder though if the Nexus can ever have a camera of great quality with the basic software they use for it.

SD cards are BAD. i'd rather have more internal storage. why?

1. SD card storage is much slower than internal.
2. SD card storage is INSECURE. if your phone gets lost/stolen the SD card is a security hole.

Nope. As long as it's got 16 to 32gig options I'm perfectly content. I don't need to worry about an SD card properly mounting etc.

Yes, I am definately bummed... But there are also rumors of a "Samsung Galaxy Nexus Plus" (GT-i9260) which is supposed to have an SD slot (and an upgraded camera). If this is true, it will likely be my next phone.

Well if the rumors are accurate, it won't have an SD card and it won't have enough internal memory either...

Seems like this article gets always gets linked whenever SD cards on a Nexus are discussed. But quite frankly, it is not accurate.

If you look at the reddit source for the article, the quote from Dan Morrill that the article cites as the primary reason there is no SD card is actually not even referring to that. It is referring to why they had to switch from USB Mass Storage protocol to MTP. He is talking about the way older devices had their internal memory split into two partitions, one for apps, and one for media. That setup was a pain. You may run out of space for apps while you still have plenty of room in your media partition just sitting there.

But that has been changed, and now all your internal memory will accessible by either apps or media or whatever as needed. And this is not related at all to whether or not a device has an SD slot. Whether you have one or not, you will still have the single partition for internal memory.

Dan goes on to say that the actual reason they did not include an SD slot is because it would complicate the UI. For example you would have to decide whether to save pictures to internal storage or the SD card. And he goes on to say that they are looking into better ways to handle this and implies they would likely include SD cards again sometime in the future.

Lol, SD cards are not bad. Yes, I want a reasonable amount of internal storage regardless, but it costs almost nothing to add an SD slot as well and it gives you a lot of flexibility. Look at the GS3, it includes an SD slot for those who want it, but they are supposedly coming out with a 64GB version which is the most I have heard of in an Android phone.

Yes it is slower than internal, but it is more than sufficient for many uses.
It is also much cheaper than internal, and it is the one component that you can keep from from device to device, which can save you a lot of money compared to spending hundreds of dollars for a little more storage each time you get a new device.
It is also easy to transfer files between devices, I can just pop the card directly into my computer if I want to.

Yes, just like any removable media, you should be aware that SD cards are not secure and you should avoid putting anything confidential on them or else encrypt it. But you should also be aware that the files stored in the equivalent place in internal memory are not that much more secure, I believe any app has full access them (although it's true they can't be removed and read in a different device like an SD card).

Not too surprised at all and not a deal breaker for me. Only stipulation would be for 16Gb absolute minimum but an option, at launch, for 32Gb at least.
