yes you are. some people want vanilla android 2.2. some people want other "tweaks" that you can't do without root. some people want features that aren't available in the stock form. some people don't want bloatware.

some people just want to use the device the way they want to, which means you need to root.

so you are upset that we are getting the froyo update but you have to wait a couple of weeks for developers to hack it and gain root access??????

I am confused can't you just refuse the update until root access has been gained? are you mad at HTC for giving us an update and would rather them not update the device? or are you mad at developers for not hacking an update that has yet to be released?

I am used to people moaning that they want updates and now people are moaning that they don't want updates

+1

Couldn't have said it better

I rooted my EVO last weekend and finally got the nerve to apply the DamageControl ROM with a new theme...needless to say, now I'm torn if I should update to 2.2 or stay where I'm at because I'm loving DamageControl! Coming from the Palm Pre, the options are almost overwhelming! With the Pre you had to patch just to make it semi-normal. Android is the best OS!

I'm not mad at all. I didn't mean it to come across that way at all. I'm rooted so I can have a FROYO ROM right now if I want. If not I don't have to. I will probably run a ROM based on the official HTC/Sprint ROM when it's rooted. At least for a little bit. I know some people don't want to root for warranty reasons and I totally respect that.

I had a PRE and had Preware on it to customize it to make it the way I wanted it to be. I see rooting as being the same for Android.

I guess my point is that I want to be able to choose what to have on my phone. I wasn't trying to start an argument.

Re: RUMOR ALERT, EVO and Froyo rumored August 5th

Do you guys have any idea how these things work. A Dev will put out a stock 2.2 ROM with super user abilities within a couple days of being available. No need to wait for another root method. Now if you have root now and apply the update then the waiting period to gain root again could be longer and that is if someone decides to break the ROM.

I did not read through this entire thread so I apologize if this has been asked. i:)i

I did not apply the last update so am still at the stock version. Firmware 2.1 update1.

Will this effect me in so far as should I apply that last patch first or will it be able to patch me directly to 2.2?

I held off so I could still use Unrevoked. I love to tether, I am at a restaurant right now on my laptop tethering through my Evo. i:)i

What bugs me are the root fanboys who seem to sneer at those who don't root and prefer to run official software. It reminds me of PC enthusiasts who build their own uber-rigs with crazy overclocking and exotic cooling setups laughing at people who buy a Dell/HP/Apple/whatever from Beast Buy or grease monkeys scoffing at those who hit the Quick Lube place for an oil change instead of spending a Saturday afternoon crawling under the car and getting dirty. There's no shame in just using your phone as designed and provided. These "lame" users aren't hassling the root/ROM/hack folks, so quit sniping at them with rants about "bloatware," etc.

why so much concern about "root" ? evo was built for froyo and above. everything will be so much faster and apps can go to sd. am i missing something?

The main reason I'd want root would be to be able to keep the lifting of the 30fps limit on the screen refresh. The phone feels immensely better with that limit lifted. I'd imagine we'll have to wait for both root of the 2.2 update and an update for the 30fps fix too.

I dont know about that 30fps limit deal. Mines hacked and really don't see a significant change...just very slight. What I benifit from root is being able to tether since my internet at home is crap at the moment. But it looks to be a lot of good things with this update though. Including video recording updates and being able to store apps to SD. A few times I've gotten that memory almost full notification and had to remove some apps.

This will be like having a new toy again. Devs usually come up with something within a few days after a rom is released so I may just wait. Hopefully I can resist.

This is going to be available as a download and not a ota update? I still think I'll wait for some people to try it first.

Yes, exactly. I don't care how it's delivered, but I'm going to wait for the first round of folks to basically beta test it out in the real world.

And no, I have not rooted my phone yet. Perhaps if I really want some extra features (the wifi hotspot would be nice, but that's built into 2.2, isn't it?) and unloading the Sprint software (cuz I don't care about the nascar/football apps lol) I will root once there's a root for 2.2 out.

well remember people this upgrade really is not that big ... it will still keep most of the htc sense there. I can see it happening this soon there only implementing a few things and most things are already there. like fm radio yea that is there friend stream that is there, there just updating things. I hope for the update so we can look forward to gingerbread.

Android Noob

Hey I got a stupid question. I think I know the answer but just want to double check. Anyway here goes... When I upgrade to Froyo will I have to REdownload all the Apps and Widgets that I have spent time and effort finding??? thanks for the info Ya'll!!!
