Rumors - I wish someone would make up their mind!

I just hope that the Note 21 Ultra has a flat screen instead of the stupid curved one. It seems Samsung is falling on their sword and keeping the curves no matter what the users want, since they came up with the concept first, I guess.

I realize the dumbed down N20 has the flat screen but if I were to pay that much for a phone, I'd just pay a little more to get the top one.

I'm still rocking my N8 after over 3 years (got it release weekend, coming from the N4) and don't want the N20U because of the stupid curved screen (I frickin' HATE it on my N8 because it's impossible to find a GLASS screen protector that works and the whole curve "feature" is useless to me anyway). I was planning to hold out until the fall IF the new top Note phone has a flat screen. If it doesn't, no reason at all to get it and I'd just settle for an almost free N20U by that time.

We don't know what the users want. We only know what the people who frequent forums such as this claim they want. I personally don't mind the curved screen but if I did I would just by something else.

Unfortunately, if you're a pen guy, there is nothing else. The curved screen adds nothing for me either, and is an occasional annoyance. I put that "feature" in the negative column. The pen is in the positive column and carries a lot of weight. We don't get to design our perfect phone - we only get to weigh the options and choose the best compromise. We also can voice our opinions for whatever they are worth. I'd keep the pen and lose the curve if given the option.

And the people who frequent these forums only represent a small demographic of the population of smartphone users.

My brother, for example, hates smartphones and thinks they're a waste of time. He'll only buy what can do the bare minimum, and he's good with that.

There's a lot of different users out there with needs that we may not even think about or know of.

So what is the original purpose for the curved screen anyway? I'm not a fan of it either but I'm curious why it was made originally. It must be more than just because it looks pretty. Had to be a functional thing at one time.

When the Galaxy Note Edge came out, there was a purpose for the curved side for displaying info. But not it's pretty much an aesthetic feature. Granted, it's pretty but as bezels get thinner and thinner, it's more of an annoyance now with falso touches if running naked or near naked like I am with ultra thin cases.

I agree - it was for info and favoured applications, no? The Edge Panel? I really like mine on my S10. I'd be upset if they got rid of it - but I too get accidental touches out of it at times.
