Newbie here. Excellent"
What does a dual boot do?
Also could you direct me to the links for instructions and downloads for the dual boot and installation of cm7?
Much appreciated, thanks

how does one know what OC kernel to use? Ho does one do it step by step when running from an sd card?

Get the OC kernels from http://coachz.inetpro.org/~dalingrin/nook/kernels/ (the update-CM7-dalingrin-sd versions).

If you installed CM7 using the technique from the link in post #5, all you need to do is install the zip file on your SD card and boot into recovery. It will automatically install.

How do you determine which winimg you need to download? I have a window 7 professional (does that even matter?) and the link on the youtube site by Ana (post #5) gives all the download links for all the winimg. Help!

First one on the list has Win7 support. I'm on vista so I can't test any further. Link

For some reason, when I try to follow these instructions and use CM7 to install it on my 2GB SD card as a Nook root, I get constant errors both when running CM7 for the first time. Then, if I get it to work, I get a ton of errors when I try to install Google Apps and can never complete the Google account setup nor login with my existing account.

I am using:
generic-sdcard.img version 1.3
cm-encore-full-211
google apps for CM7 from the wiki CM7 site.

Any ideas what I am doing wrong? Oh, I am using a 2GB SD card as my CM7 install. It;s somewhat old, so I am purchasing a new, and larger, one tomorrow to see if that helps.

Probably the card. Make sure you buy a Sandisk!

So I get a Class 4, 8GB PNY.

The install went much smoother, but after installing the google apps file, I still get some errors, although much less. Do I need to get a different micro SD that is a higher class?

The ONLY stable SD card is a class 2 or 4 Sandisk brand.

Well that stinks. The Android install seems stable, as in not much crashes, but I get a lot of the "this program is not responding" messages and if I click "wait" it usually responds give enough time.

Is that normal operation with a Sandisk? If not, I guess I will start hunting for a Sandisk.

This is the behaviour with most non-sandisk cards, no matter the class. Sandisk will beat all the other cards when it comes to read/write on small files even if it is only a class 2 card.

So, the only sure way to get this working is to get a Sandisk card. I got a different brandname 16GB Class 6 card, and had this behaviour, now I run on a 16GB class4 Sandisk card, and now it works just fine!

Bottom line: If you want to run off the SD card, Sandisk class 2 or better is the way to go.

Thanks for all your help! I really appreciate it as I am a noob to android rooting.

One last question and I am done....I think. I have actually installed and configured a good bit of stuff on this SD card. Can I somehow transfer all the files from my existing SD card and to the new SD card when it arrives? Or do I have to start over from acratch?

Thanks in advance!
