S-note, Samsung Notes, bleh!

So I just got a shiny new Tab S3 to replace my aging Galaxy Note 10.1 (2012 edition). So far, very pleased.

But biggest disappointment is the missing S-Note app. Mostly because you can't exchange data between S-Note and Samsung Notes. I have a Note 4 phone and was keeping my notes up to date on both devices.

Fortunately most of my notes are in LectureNotes, but I had quite a bit in S-Note and was considering going back because it does have some nice features. S-Notes can be imported to Samsung Notes, but you can't go back the other way.

I've been out of action for awhile, so a little green with what's out there now. Is LectureNotes still the best option? For those wondering, I use FolderSync to keep my LectureNotes folders in sync through the cloud.

What other note taking apps might be competitive? I'm not unhappy with LectureNotes but am willing to consider alternatives.

Since you have the S-Pen and 'finger input' won't be an issue, I'd recommend OneNote. If it had the 'zoomed input' like S-Note had it would have been awesome...but it doesn't, so it's just great haha. Since Sammy keeps changing their notes suite (and every version seems to be incompatible with each other... sometimes you can import but can't edit), I'd stay with something that is more stable, like those apps.

I was just gonna post One Note! Have it on my surface, tab and Note 8.

Google how to put s-note on a tab s3. there is a way. I have s-note on my tab s3 with the expansion pack. so much better than the new Samsung notes.

Problem with that is that the product is no longer supported. No more updates, sync will be broken eventually, and just as certain, there will come a time it won't run on newer OS's. So it's a dead product. Yes, a good one, and something I wish they hadn't deprecated, but that is what it is.

I've had plans to check out OneNote but have a lot of time and effort invested in Evernote right now. Thanks for the tip on how to install S-Note. I do hear the concerns about it being orphanware, which is kind of a shame. It really had a lot of value.

I try to boycott Microsoft apps like the plague because of their history of belligerence towards open source, that has only recently changed. This is Android. It is not a Microsoft tablet.

I also try to boycott anything from Samsung, because of this orphaning effect. It is surprising that stand-alone apps like LectureNotes are better supported than what these behemoth corporations produce.

I actually have used LectureNotes and have been pleased with it in the past, but what it does not do is vector-based storage. It only stores in raster format IIRC.

What I've been using recently is Squid :

Knowledge Base – Feedback, ideas, and support for Squid (formerly Papyrus)

The thing I like about Squid is that it is not only vector-based, but it has infinite canvas and pretty good (although not infinite) zoom.

In my fantasy world, I would wish that the developer for LectureNotes and for Squid would combine forces and thus combine feature sets to handle all use cases. There are things that LectureNotes does better than Squid and vice versa.

Whenever those apps are universally supported and allow me to switch from one device to another without having to worry about not having the app available there or not having sync, then I'd consider making a move.
