I am hoping these issues aren't issues on the Evo. Right now I'm trying the Epic and love it aside from these 2 issues really. I realize that push email just isn't going to happen reliably and is kind of iffy even with the mail apps. I may end up using K9 but not sure about this yet. One thing I've had a problem with is my email dissappearing daily. I am coming from the Palm Pre where I can keep my e-mail until I delete it. On the Epic it dissappears daily. Is it the same on the Evo or does it stay put until you delete it. I can live without the push as long as it syncs every 30 minutes or so BUT can't accept it deleting my emails.

Second, I have an app to send calls to voicemail but there are still occasionally rings that are enough to wake me up. I work 3rd shift and don't get enough sleep as it is. I block my work calls during my sleep time but can't shut off my phone in case I get a call from my children's school. For some reason the typical ability to send calls to voicemail by editing the contact is not available on the Epic.

I have 3 weeks left to try out the Epic and want to know if I should put my name on a waiting list now for the Evo or stick with the Epic and keep working around these issues. As much as I love everything else about the phone I have never used the slide out keyboard, not even once so from what I'm seeing everything else is pretty much the same. I just have no idea about these 2 issues mentioned above.

Hmm...your first issue sounds like a setting within your email app. Is it pop, imap, gmail (push), exchange (push)? I've never had a problem with emails disappearing on any of those types of email setups, but it might help figure out the problem if you told us which type it is.

As for your second question, yes, on the Evo, each contact has the option to 'send to voicemail'. Though if you got a call from a number not on your contact list, this wouldn't help. I'm not sure if there is a generic "send to voicemail" for all incoming calls or not, but I know for sure it's there contact by contact.

Does this help at all?

Yes it does on the send to VM. I only want to really block my work. I work almost 24/7 as it is and just tired of always being accessable for stat work at their disposal so I've been blocking their calls so they think my phone is off while I sleep (hopefully without that split second ring that is just enough to wake me up).

I am using the native e-mail on the Epic for my POP accounts. The Gmail does not delete at all and figures, I don't really use that one very often. I have searched and can't find any setting aside from to keep or delete off the server and none as far as how long to keep the emails on the device. I'm constantly having to go through my trash to weed through and find the e-mails I'm wanting to find that I've kept in my inbox to address later. Not to mention that I have all of 4 emails on my account right now including my inbox, sent and trash folders and my e-mail tells me there are 42 in there. LOL. Doesn't really make sense.

Well I'm glad I could help with the send to voicemail problem, though I guess it doesn't help if the Epic doesn't have that option.

As far as the email goes...I don't have a pop account set up anymore, but the way pop is supposed to work, is it downloads the emails straight to your phone (or pc) and remove them from the server (unlike something like gmail or an exchange account, which syncs with the server). You might check the settings in your pop email account to see if something is set to delete emails every so often. Other than that, you can always set up your email accounts to go through your gmail account, that way you'd have push for your pop account, and everything would be in one inbox.

At any rate, as I don't own an Epic (and have never used one), I'm not sure how much help I can be. But as far as switching to an Evo, I know that I've never had that email problem (on any of my accounts, and I've used them all except imap), and you can easily select certain contacts to go straight to voicemail :)

I guess I'll call them tomorrow then and see if I can get on the waiting list for an exchange. As much as I love the phone these things are kind of deal breakers. I've researched the POP issue as much as possible and can't get my hands around it. Not to mention the send to VM will be nice to not have those split second rings. It's a great App but not perfect (and I had to pay for it). Otherwise, I can't imagine not loving the Evo as much as I do the Epic. If these issues are nonexistant on I will probably love it more.

Wish me luck. I got the Evo today and all set up. Is there a way to combine email accounts at all? Luckely both are downloading my emails so that is a plus. Hopefully they will stay on my device when I need them. That was driving me nuts, especially when it happened again last night I though I was going to throw it out the window.

I was able to see how to put my work # on send to voicemail so I'm all set and can get a good mornings sleep tomorrow.

And, I got my swype on there, one of the first things I did after resyncing my phone. Works great. Thanks Evo forum.
