Anyone having a problem with the S pen? My tablet detects that the s pen has been removed even though it is still snug in it's holder. This turns the tablet on and wastes the battery.

Although you can turn the S-Pen detection off in the settings to prevent the battery drain, it is by no means a 'normal issue'. I'd say you need to get either the S-Pen replaced or the whole tablet (and I'm pretty sure you're still covered by warranty, provided you haven't rooted yet).

If possible, get another S-Pen and try that one in your tablet. Does it exhibit the same behavior? If it does, it's the tablet, you need a replacement. If it doesn't, try the next suggestion.

If you were able to get another S-Pen, I'm assuming there's another Note 10.1 2014 to go along with it. Try YOUR S-Pen in that tablet. Does it act up like yours? If it does, then it's the S-Pen that needs replacing.

I exchanged mine for a new one. I didn't want to start out with an expensive tablet that doesn't function properly. The customer service rep for Samsung said that she hasn't received any complaints regarding this issue, but I do see it popping up on various forums.

I can't speak for the Note 10.1 yet (I'm a few days away from getting one, hopefully) but I haven't had any issues with the Note 3 so far, other than the tip being noticeably harder to use. I remember the S-Pen in the Note 2 was a lot easier to have register the input (I didn't have to press that hard to make a trace).
