I've started having problems with S Voice's ability to "get an answer". I've had my Galaxy S3 (Verizon) for a few days now. I experimented with S Voice the first night I got my phone, and I was pleasantly surprised that it was able to answer probably at least 80% of the questions that I asked. I tried it the following day, and it wasn't answering the same questions, but I was in a restaurant and assumed the problem was background noise. Today I tried again (in a quiet home) and had virtually no luck at all. The phone understands what I am asking and correctly puts my question into a little speech bubble in S Voice, but then it just doesn't provide any answer. I'm not asking any crazy questions, just basic things that shouldn't be a problem to answer, and many of the questions I'm asking are the ones listed as an example when you press the "question mark" in S Voice and click on "get an answer". Here are some of the questions: How high is Mount Everest? What is Samsung's stock price? Who is the Prime Minister of New Zealand? And then I added a few basic question of my own: What is the distance to the sun? What is the capital of Alaska? Where is the Eiffel Tower located? S Voice properly understood every question, but failed to answer any of them. Like I said, the S Voice function worked well on those types of questions a few days ago, but now can't answer any of those.

Other S Voice functions are working (like "open calendar" "memo...." "what is the weather tomorrow", so the problem only seems to be in the "get an answer" functions.

Here are all the things I've tried to do to fix/test the problem. I've tried this in 3g and 4g zones and using wifi at 2 different homes (each with strong wifi). I read on the internet that some people had S Voice issues and switched from English (US) to English (UK) and that got things working for them - but I had no success with that. I rebooted the phone several times - didn't fix the problem. I went through all my settings, but couldn't find anything that looked wrong, so I eventually did a full factory reset which also did not help the problem.

Is anyone else having this problem? I would appreciate it if you could ask the same questions in S Voice and let me know whether your phone is working. I started wondering if the feature had been disabled (maybe due to patent lawsuits)?? Or maybe I just have a defective phone and need to get it exchanged? I'm not sure how S Voice actually works - could the large number of people getting these phones all at once be bogging down something in S Voice's ability to get information?

I would really appreciate any feedback, suggestions, etc. Thanks in advance!!

I had the S3 and had the same experience you did. My guess is that the backend servers are getting slammed. However having said that, when it can't figure out "what is 1+1?" but gets "what is 2+2?" correct you don't trust it to get anything right.

Why are you even using S-Voice? It's a gimmick, and it doesn't work well. It is known.

Hopefully it is some kind of server issue and will start working again once the initial rush of new activations is over and people stop experimenting with all the new features. I was trying from around 8pm to midnight eastern time....I wonder if it would work better at at a different time of day. Thanks for your help!

When I buy a new item, I like to try out all the features. Earlier tonight I was showing my phone to some relatives, but the S Voice wasn't able to answer any questions. As I mentioned, when I first received it a few days ago (July 9), it actually worked surprisingly well, so it was strange that it wouldn't work at all.

While it's not a feature I would use every day right now, I think I would use it on occasion and perhaps a lot in the future as the technology gets even better.

jozzdroid, I have exactly the same issues as you...to a 't'! Mine was working "OK" last night, but today I get nothing. At first I was getting verbal responses, but then it was just written and today I get nothing.

Just as in your case, if I ask it for the weather, I get the weather but not even that is verbalized anymore. My local weather just shows up. Really weird. I'm not sure how it works, so it's tough to figure out what's wrong.

Like you I tried switching from 4G to WiFi and got no results.

Siri may not be great either, but I think it's more consistent and responsive. Hopefully it's just a problem on the server (if that's how it works) and not an issue with the phone itself.

Ken7, thanks for the information. I just did some google searching and S Voice apparently uses Samsung servers. I'm not sure how many servers they have or where they are located (I'm in Ohio), but hopefully this is just an issue of overwhelmed servers with everyone trying their phones at once. Maybe Samsung will add more servers. It worked very well 4 days ago, so hopefully this will clear up. At least it doesn't seem to be my phone.

I just got my phone yesterday around 1pm and tried the S voice about 3pm. It was working great. Took it home to show the hubby and had the same problems you all are having. I'm glad I'm not alone! Hopefully it will get better soon.

To be honest, it worked pretty good today. It sucked yesterday at even answering the simplest questions... i.e. "who is the president of the United states", and stuff like 2+2. But today was a lot more positive. Maybe there is some ongoing backend server work

Same problem here..worked great the first couple of hours, then couldn't even answer the same questions I already asked it. Not fun when you're trying to convince others your GS3 is better than their iPhone! :-[

I agree the S Voice feature is not very efficient.

I used it for navigation "go home" and to call people while in the car. I am not sure if I messed around the power savings, lock screen options or what not but it's not as responsive as it was the first day I got the phone. Now I don't even bother with it.

I said no but I meant Yes. Yes it does not answer questions. Even more strange I'll say something like "add appointment July 23rd 1:00pm" and it will translate on correctly but then S-Voice will come back and say "Add appointment Aug 1st?"

Could it be an issue with the fact that Samsung is a Korean company, and the translation bit takes longer or isn't as evolved? Not trying to be funny- just seriously wondering if maybe they're a little behind on the English-language S-Voice features.

I would rule that possibility out. Samsung is a HUGE company with headquarters in the U.S. run by English proficient people. I mean, the manual is all perfectly written in English, right? If anything it's just not progressed enough to be efficiently used yet.

I know this might be a stupid suggestion. Are you sure the volume didn't get turned off?
I gave up on it trying to understand me. Assistant was better. Even Google voice search understands most things but without voice reply.
