I've started having problems with S Voice's ability to "get an answer". I've had my Galaxy S3 (Verizon) for a few days now. I experimented with S Voice the first night I got my phone, and I was pleasantly surprised that it was able to answer probably at least 80% of the questions that I asked. I tried it the following day, and it wasn't answering the same questions, but I was in a restaurant and assumed the problem was background noise. Today I tried again (in a quiet home) and had virtually no luck at all. The phone understands what I am asking and correctly puts my question into a little speech bubble in S Voice, but then it just doesn't provide any answer. I'm not asking any crazy questions, just basic things that shouldn't be a problem to answer, and many of the questions I'm asking are the ones listed as an example when you press the "question mark" in S Voice and click on "get an answer". Here are some of the questions: How high is Mount Everest? What is Samsung's stock price? Who is the Prime Minister of New Zealand? And then I added a few basic question of my own: What is the distance to the sun? What is the capital of Alaska? Where is the Eiffel Tower located? S Voice properly understood every question, but failed to answer any of them. Like I said, the S Voice function worked well on those types of questions a few days ago, but now can't answer any of those.
Other S Voice functions are working (like "open calendar" "memo...." "what is the weather tomorrow", so the problem only seems to be in the "get an answer" functions.
Here are all the things I've tried to do to fix/test the problem. I've tried this in 3g and 4g zones and using wifi at 2 different homes (each with strong wifi). I read on the internet that some people had S Voice issues and switched from English (US) to English (UK) and that got things working for them - but I had no success with that. I rebooted the phone several times - didn't fix the problem. I went through all my settings, but couldn't find anything that looked wrong, so I eventually did a full factory reset which also did not help the problem.
Is anyone else having this problem? I would appreciate it if you could ask the same questions in S Voice and let me know whether your phone is working. I started wondering if the feature had been disabled (maybe due to patent lawsuits)?? Or maybe I just have a defective phone and need to get it exchanged? I'm not sure how S Voice actually works - could the large number of people getting these phones all at once be bogging down something in S Voice's ability to get information?
I would really appreciate any feedback, suggestions, etc. Thanks in advance!!
