s10+ to iPhone and back to s10+

Lol so now iMessage is a gimmick?

Let’s be honest here people, the reason people like it is that it is a default app that works incredibly well and does pretty much everything g you could want perfectly and seamlessly.

There is no need for anything else in terms of messaging when you are on an iPhone since it doss most of what the larger majority of users need on a daily basis.

Is it perfect? Almost, does it miss a few things, sure it does, but it ticks the boxes in so many areas that the missing features are mostly forgotten about or not needed.

There are tons of people with iPhones and if you communicate with those people it is basically perfection.

Why do you think WhatsApp is an international standard with millions of user, it’s basically the same as iMessage.

TBH, Signal is pretty much exactly the same thing. If you can get your family and friends to install that, the problem is solved, at least on Android. The beauty of iMessages is that it has SMS and internet messaging combined in one app - just like Signal. Signal is a lot more secure though and works just as transparently on Android. Unfortunately, there's no way to change the default SMS app on iOS (because iMessages would have failed otherwise).

Now that Apple Music is available on Android, Android Auto and even Google Assistant, I think iMessages could follow. They'd make a crapload of money if they released iMessages on a subscription basis. The fewer iPhones they're selling, the higher the chance of iMessages for Android becomes.

Whatsapp was a great service until Facebook bought it. WhatsApp and Signal both have one fundamental flaw compared to iMessages though: They're tied to a phone number. While you can add a phone number on iMessages as well, it's not required. WhatsApp would probably be on every phone worldwide if they managed to tie it to an e-mail address as well. Same goes for Signal.

As long as it won't work on an iPad or a desktop PC /MAC without having to connect it to a phone, it'll always be worse than iMessages overall.

yea i liked imessage as well.

i think it isn't implemented yet on Android due to patent issues or cost issues.

its a free messaging app which offers all the goodies from text to video share. so it requires lots of bandwidth and also you gotta have to have lots and lots redundant storage and backup.

it's a service, and people demand to have their messages sent, even if the other person has their phone down for like a two week vacation somewhere on an lonely island

also, if android had something similar, it would render all other messaging apps useless.. kinda..

if Android had an i(a)Message and it would also be able to send to Apple's imessage, that'd be to huge i think.

imessage as it is now is just a gimmick for apple consumers. but it would take over the whole market if it were available on Android as well.
Lol, iMessage is not a gimmick, it's one of the best messaging platforms ever created. Love or hate Apple, they do some things really great and that is one of them. Google wishes they had something similar (which they will at some point once RCS is the norm). iMessage and FaceTime will never be on Android either, they can't gaurantee the same security on hardware they don't make and both are the biggest draws to keep people buying iPhones.

They can't guarantee security on the iPhone either.

So .. have you used them? I mean I find it comical you call them a cult when you follow Samsung in the same fashion yet.. you somehow think that is okay but not for others to like something else?

Nope. I use Samsung because they're usually the most innovative too me. I've bought other devices. Yes I've played with iPhone including iMessage. Couldn't stand it. And yes, it does have a cult like mentality. Lots of people buy it just to say they have an iPhone. Especially young folks.

And many buy Samsung just because Samsung so I still don't see how one is justified and the other isn't lol.

RCS is aka?

Rich communication services. It would enable regular text and MMS to kind of be like iMessage and such. Bigger video files, bigger group chats, more features, etc.

Not nearly at the same level. You know this too. It's a status device. 😁 Look. I have an iPhone. What do you have? 😂 Someone has actually said that to me before.

Still doesn't change the fact that it happens. I never said it wasn't a thing.. I said you act as if Samsung one isn't a thing and iPhone totally is which is comical.

You may find it comical because you love iPhone. But it is still more cult like in nature than any other device. It's a status device to a lot of users.

No I find it comical because I see the same cult mentality on these boards .. I kinda have been around awhile. I am not pulling this out of thin air ;). Just like you find it shocking someone dares to say it about Samsung because you only show up on the boards around Samsung time ... coincidence? :P.

I show up when I'm not working. I don't usually post but so often. I have many different phones in this house. Need to sell some of them. 😉

Being someone who has used both iMessage and Android Messages (I used iPhones for years until switching to Samsung last year) and having been on mostly iPhone user group chats I can honestly say that iMessage does have a sort of cult/club like mentality among a significant amount of its users (not all of them, but a significant amount nonetheless).

Do I think that iMessage is a very good messaging app? Yes. Is Android Messages as good? Yes (they have differences on how some functions are emphasised but on the whole they’re both as good as each other).

But iMessage (at least in the US and in the West) does have a much more noticeable ‘club’ factor that Samsung does. I’m sure Samsung has its own ‘cult’ followers...but they are simply less noticeable, fewer in number and (slightly) less vocal from what I’ve seen than Apple’s.

The fact that iMessage (a messaging app for goodness’ sake) has its own significant and vocal ‘cult/club’ members says something in itself. Samsung and Android messages simply don’t have the same number of extremely vocal supporters who have a ‘club/cult’ mentality when it comes to the app if at all. The ‘green/blue bubble snub factor’ is actually a thing.

Samsung is relatively prevalent here among the 30+ years crowd. Below that, Apple has a market share of around 80%

But iMessages isn’t the go-to messenger in Europe. WhatsApp is absolutely dominating the messenger sector

First phrase is a shame but true in my experience. Most/many Apple sheep are also in that age range :(

WhatsApp for the win though :) (despite it being owned by Facebook and apparently having ads appearing in the near future)
