S20+ 5GHz connectivity issues

Hi, has anyone had connectivity issues connecting to 5GHz Wifi?

The device connects almost instantly to 2.4GHz but refuses to connect to 5GHz at all.

If I reset the Device's Network Settings, it will connect once but if I disconnect and try again, it won't connect. I have to restart the process over again which get's a bit tedious.

Mine had no issues connecting to 5GHz wifi.

Welcome to Android Central! How far away is the phone from the access point? 5 GHz may be faster than 2.4 GHz, but the range is worse, and it doesn't penetrate walls as well.

Also, does your router have separate SSIDs for the 2.4 GHz band and the 5 GHz band? If they both have the same SSID, it might confuse the phone.

I solved the problem. I had two 5GHz access points with the same SSID. I changed it and it fixed the problem. Thanks.

How does one with android 11 set 5ghz as preference?
Only as preference, so that when only 2.4 is available it uses that one

I don't believe there's an option (at least not with the stock system settings). There might be a 3rd party app that works -- see this thread: https://android.stackexchange.com/questions/197064/prefer-5ghz-over-2-4ghz-without-disabling-2-4ghz

my 5g goes to 4g sometimes wifi at home android 11 i kindof wonder if the verizon tower at dollar general store where i live at is still 4g but yet when i go in town everything is 5g very odd

Remember, we're talking about 5 GHz (gigahertz) wi-fi (vs 2.4 Ghz) here -- not 5G (G for generation) cell signal vs 4G.
