I have a brand new S20 and tried to replace Samsung Messages with Google Messages.
I'm coming from a Note 9 where I have been using Google Messages for 2 years without issue.

On this new S20 I've been getting 5-8% battery drain per hour from Google Messages and I cannot figure out why.

I have cleared app data. I have cleared the partition cache. I have reinstalled. I have turned chat features on/off.
Nothing seems to help.

Does anyone else use Google Messages or has anyone else experienced a problem like this?

I have an S10 and tried Google Messages and experienced high batter usage, too. I was keen to use RCS messaging but uninstalled and waited for it to arrive from Samsung. My wife's S8 was the same.

I have a S10+and when Samsung messages kept crashing on me I moved to Google messages for a few weeks. I was so happy to move back to Samsung's own app. And it was draining more battery. Am on exynos version.

The Samsung messages has improved quite a bit from the one I remember from 2-3 years ago.

I reinstalled Google Messages this morning and so far today it seems to be behaving much better.

So right now Messages has used 3.1% of my battery in the past 8 hours.

Not bad IMO.

I use it alot from my computer with the browser here at work.
