Android Central Question

I bought a used 2013 Porsche Cayenne Turbo and discovered it has AA. When I connect via USB, everything works as it should. I would prefer to connect via wifi. I have been able to connect the Blutooth and the phone shows up. Does anyone know what the password might be or how I may reset the password? I am guessing this was an add on to the factory head unit as there is a usb plug in the passengers foot area that sticks out from underneath the center counsel.

Check the manual matbe written somewhere or try contacting the dealer maybe they can get in touch with previous customer.

Welcome to Android Central! It would be most helpful to know the brand/model of the aftermarket head unit. I can't imagine that a factory installed head unit in a 2013 car would support Android Auto, so it's not just the USB port at the foot area -- the whole head unit must be aftermarket. Can you find out what the brand and model of it is?

Thank you for the replies. Now a member. The head unit is stock. There is no manual for the AA nor can I see where the usb cable runs to. The way I can access AA on the head unit is by pressing the nav button twice. I found it by accident. The car is from Georgia, I live in IL. Maybe I can trace it back on Carfax. There were two previous owners.

Are there any passwords that I can try that may be universal to the unit? It is looking for a minimum of 8 characters for the password.

Here is what I see on the phone. The AA menu has an option to view the settings menu on the phone. This is what I see. I thought there would be a password menu or something available since I was hardwired to the unit but there is nothing in the menu that I can see.

Android auto wasn't even released before 2013, are you positive this is a factory unit and if it is that it has Android auto? If it does, it's even less likely that you'll be able to do this wirelessly as that's something that just came out in the last year or two.

Tap the Settings gear icon -- is there an option for About Device or something like that, where you can see the make and model of the device?

When pressing the gear, the image shows what is displayed. Nothing else.

Welcome to AC!
If the head unit is stock the dealer can reset everything

Re: S21 attempt to connect wifi, network "carplay_wifi_2271" but it is asking for a password?

Thank you. But the AA is not. Resetting the head unit will not change anything. The AA hardware is powered separately than the head unit. I confirmed this by turning the key to the accessory position which powers up the head unit. The AA will not work until I start the car.

You mean the image that says "Kenneth's S21 Connected"?

What about the All Apps button -- do you see a Settings option in the app list? Or can you swipe down a notification panel?

Keep in mind that wireless Android Auto is not universally available -- it's only on certain systems, and since yours is probably on the older side, I don't think it'll be possible. https://www.lifewire.com/android-auto-wireless-4176354

BTW, you can see in this video that there are ways to modify the factory-installed stereo to add Android Auto/CarPlay:

It should unless in driving mode , accessories postion on is 12v when car starts its 12v also to infotainment system , the dealers have factory scanner to reset infotainment system System especially with a code , if your vehicle has wheel locks for the wheel and lose it they go by your Vin to order new lock, same if your radio has a code to enter if battery been disconnected and dont Remember it , they just have to verify your the owner .

Hi @kippjones

I've joined the group here after coming across this thread as I have some experience which may help you.

The Android Auto functionality you have is NOT stock; it's a retro-fit module fitted inside the PCM head unit which allows the display to switch between native functions and Android Auto / Apple CarPlay - I fitted one myself to my Panamera. You will have a separate unit, about 9x4x1 inches, possibly fitted above the passenger footwell panel / below the glove box. There should be a trailing USB connection - maybe in the glove box, dangling below or possibly even routed to the centre storage bin between the seats.

As the thread is some weeks old let me know if you're still struggling and I'll dig out the details of my unit which should help.
