I just got my new S21 yesterday. I've noticed at random times, it gets really hot. It doesn't seem to be when I'm doing anything specific. It has gotten hot when wireless charging, or when just sitting on my desk. Has anyone else had heat issues?

Hi, try safe mode for a little bit, rule out any 3rd party apps causing this.

I see you are a newer user here - welcome to Android Central!

Is your phone getting hot to the point that you can't touch it? If it is heating up like this, I would not leave it charging when you are not in the same room; or going to sleep with it on the charger - wireless or otherwise.

Please keep us posted on what happens! If it's a new phone, purchased yesterday, it must be within its return window, yes?

Do you know if you have the Exynos or Snapdragon version? I think the Exynos runs a little warmer than the Snapdragon versions.

If you're in the US it should be Snapdragon.

Newer user? User info says he's been a member since 2010, he just doesn't post much.

Yes, I've been a member for a while now. I most post on XDA though.

I've bumped my network down to LTE, and the problem seems to have subsided. I wonder if there's a 5G issue with these phones?

The issue is that 5G exists lol.

It'll be trying to hold onto a 5G signal that is probably incredibly weak and likely slower than 4G. Any 5G phone would probably get warm where you're using it.

That's not so much of an issue this generation. The Exynos runs a little warmer, but that's because it's a little faster. It's not a night and day difference like it was a generation or two ago.

It does make a big difference in my area though.

My apologies! I often just check out post counts and don't always see years of membership. It was a Monday - that's my excuse!

Is it? I've been watching reviews and Snapdragon is faster. Exynos gets hotter too but that's because it's a disadvantage of being and Exynos. That's why I'm planning to get a Snapdragon version from the US even when I'm currently staying in the Philippines.
Is there gonna be any issues with that btw? Using a Snapdragon version in an Exynos region?

The CPU cores in the Exynos are literally clocked faster and outperform the snapdragon. The snapdragon has a custom GPU which outperforms the reference Mali one on the Exynos.

There has also been a significant patch since I posted that comment, and the thermal performance of the Exynos may actually be better than the snapdragon now.

It isn't as simple as "Exynos bad, snapdragon good".
